Allpar is in no way affiliated with Chrysler, they just have detailed info about their models and how they stack up against the competition. The LH cars were very modern and way beyond the competition back in 1993 when they were introduced. Accept that fact if you can. Another history lesson for you......Whoomp! There it is!!
I have driven GM cars from the 90s, I even owned an Oldsmobile Achieva for a short time (big mistake on my part). Fact is Chrysler compared quite favorably to the competition back then, however the successes of the 90s were replaced by the mismanagement of the Daimler era, and now we see the mess they created. There is no denying the fact that Chrysler is now in a restructuring phase, and the problems they now have occurred when Daimler was in charge. Cerberus is working hard towards cleaning up the mess, and has more work to do. IMO, they should start by improving the interiors that Daimler forced upon Chrysler.

The loans that were guaranteed by the Gov't were paid back early. Besides, I am talking about the 1990s not the 1970s.
How can you say the 1994 Dodge Ram was not cutting edge? How about the Dodge Viper? Dodge has produced several models that have shaken up the market. Look at the P.T. Cruiser. Sure it isn't very popular now that Daimler let it die a slow death, but when they were introduced they couldn't keep up with demand. They were so popular that GM decided to copy it with the HHR. GM should try coming up with an original thought of their own and maybe then they could be "cutting edge".

Let's see...they have:
Created a huge market segment single-handedly (minivans).
Revived the convertable in the 80's (Dodge 600, Chrysler Le Baron)
Invented the sport truck.
Revolutionized the diesel pickup market (Cummins).
Did it again for pickups in general (1994 Ram).
They also introduced...
Intergrated power steering.
Three-speed automatic with torque converter.
Alternators rather than generators.
ABS.
Unit-body construction (not the first, but the first mainstream).
The first American FWD compact car.
John
1984 Ford B-700 school bus conversion, Thomas body
A bunch of other vehicles
3 nutty cats (Maya, Vierna, Briza)
One lazy dog (Marmaduke)
One wife (Liz)

I think Toyota passed them long ago, they've been no better than 4th for a while. Wait until Cerebus gets through.
The Pushbutton transmission was an absolute breakthrough.
