Hi,
Simple question. Do any of the Cell phone compaines have WiFi cards/ plans that can be purchased by the month, or similar to buying prepaid phone cards?

No not WiFi, it's cellular (EVDO/GPRS/3G) broadband. Two totally different technologies.....

As was pointed out you asked a misleading question. Are you looking for cell service or wifi service? Two different animals. There are pay-as-you-go wifi services but I think your money would be better spent buying a wifi antenna/adapter and using free wifi that's available all over. If you want pay-as-you-go cell internet I'm not sure it's available in that format. I have it from AT&T but it is part of my voice service. I can turn the data off and on when desired but the voice service is always there.

I assume you are talking about cellular data, not wi-fi.
Some companies allow you to tether your wireless phone to your laptop and use it for internet connection. This you can add to your plan and remove from your plan as you need it.
Wi-Fi cards are available most places - Walmart, Target, etc.. They have nothing to do with the cell phone companies. Many campgrounds provide free wi-fi, and many others provide it for a fee.
We are full-timers and use exclusively wi-fi from the campgrounds.

For years i have accessed the Internet via AT&T (Cingular) and turned it off and on at will. Last time I did this they tried to charge me $200.00 for early disconnect saying that they no longer allowed that type of use. You now must sign a year long contract to turn on the laptop connect feature. Might try verizon.

I think the OP is referring to getting wifi on a laptop connect card, which ATT does in certain hotspots. Why it would be needed is beyond me as you would simply use your aircard connection instead, unless of course the wifi is much faster.

We have Verizon cell phones and if you buy their Mobil Office it will allow you to connect the Verizon cell phone to your computer with a cable and pay a monthly charge of $60 rather than a card that plugs into the computer to get WiFi service but pay by the year.
It works well enough to allow video conferencing with at least two persons using Skype.

If you get that $60 plan they will give you an aircard free (after the rebate), so why wouldn't you use an aircard rather than tie up your phone while you are on the internet?
Just curious, used to tether, now use the aircard.

Just curious, used to tether, now use the aircard. Actually my phone works fine for voice when I'm tethered and on the Internet - I just have a cord connecting me to my PC or I use my Blue Tooth. I do agree that if you're paying for the $60 plan you may as well get the free card, but for those of us paying for the cheaper plan that you can turn on and off, the tethered phone is a fine solution. Heck, it even charges the phone while it's connected to the PC!
