i bolted one onto my bumper, but the bumper is lightweight and only use it to tow my boat. you will need to build a homemade reciever type hitch to attatch to the frame and run out under the bumper to be able to tow any significant weight.

My dealer installed one on ours last year so we could carry our generator. He purchased a regular receiver hitch, put a lot of bracing on the frame and welded the hitch to our frame. Seems to be solid as a rock. I ask about warranty, and he said we installed they would take care if any problem would arise. I've dealt with this dealer for several years, and yes they will take care of me. I imagine it could void warranty. All we carry is the generator, which is mounted in a receiver carrier. They did a beautiful job with the work, and everything works fine. Don't do it if your dealer won't stand behind what you do.

Here's mine - had a local welding shop build it. The best way to build it is to basically create a rectangular box, welded to the frame and have the hitch tube be fixed to both the front and rear cross members - you can see it extending towards the front of the trailer in the picture. More rigid that way and eliminates the possibility of frame twisting - that is what can happen if the hitch is just welded or bolted at one position on the frame, and why they are wary enough to say they'll void your warranty!

I agree - I wouldn't tow my boat with a hitch fixed to the bumper - way too flimsy. It does depend on the boat/traler weight - mine is 2800 lbs. No way I would risk my investment with that type of hitch!

This is the rig...

I wouldn't (and currently do not) trust my bumper to carry my spare. It goes in the back of the truck.
