Many do it but any modification to the frame will almost certainly void the warranty. If you are worried a call to the manufacturer should clarify it.

My dealer said "Yes, we do it all the time." Frame manufacturer said it would void my warranty. I'll let it slide until there is no warranty just in case.

My Open Road is being repaired right now, 3 years out of warraty for delam and small crack in sidewalls. They did ask me before they took it back, if I have ever towed anything or built any kind of platform off the rear bumper.
