I thought you were going to say something like PLEASE tell me how I can even get into some of the state parks. Reservations are darn near impossible to get in many of them.

The only complaint I have about our State Park in Guntersville are the people that have "camped" on a
site for over a year or more. That's not camping. Good grief, when you build a wooden deck you've moved in on state property.
How are other states dealing with this?
Last summer you couldn't get a site on sewage even during the week unless you were just right there and could jump on it.
I've even thought about selling the camper and just getting a bigger boat due to it.
I know we are not the only ones frustrated with it.

Evidently Alabama doesn't have a time limit for camping in a park or campsite, or isn't enforcing it. I haven't noticed this problem in WI or MI SPs. And certainly no deck-building!!

Wisconsin charges $10 per day, non-resident. MI charges $8.
Indiana is a steal, $7 non-resident, 1st day in and the charge covers your stay, even if it's more than 1 day. We stayed for 3 nights last year and only paid the $7. Now THAT'S a bargain.
Illinois is dirt cheap, just camped this past weekend for $15 for elec, no entrance fee. I would be happy to pay an entrance fee if they spent the money on upgrading the parks but I suspect Illinois would put the money in the "general kitty".

RRUGG wrote: Earlier this week we stayed in one of Michigan's state parks. The camping fee was $27. For that we got an electric hookup. We've stayed in many private parks with full hookups for as much as $10 less and private parks MUST make a profit to stay in business. Some friends who volunteer in state parks say there are sometimes more employees than there is work for them. Or is the state trying to make up for budget shortfalls in other areas by raising state park fees?????????????
I live in Michigan and would love to find the private campground that is $10 dollars less than the state parks. So RRugg please let the rest of us from this state know where you are camping for $17 dollars full hookup. Every private campground i have stayed in or checked out is $10-25 dollars more.

In Michigan you can only camp for a maximum of 15 days in a park.

We have a 14 day rule on a front site of the water, but not the other sites. Other than that, the park is great at 23.00 a night or around that.

I know we are not the only ones frustrated with it. MOST states, it's illegal to build ANYTHING on state property. It sounds like someone already said, Alabama is not enforceing the laws.
