What is the best and least exspensive dial up service for my computer while on the road.

It would all depend on if you can find a local number for your providerer. I have found it is much easier to find free WiFi and use a Yahoo or Hotmail type address. Both of those are free and you can get e-mail from just about any computer. In many cases WiFi will be much faster than any dial-up you may have and it is usually available right at your RV site.

Not well versed in "computereeze" but I thought a dial up service required a land line which is functionally hard to utilize while traveling the road.
We use AT&T/Sierra air card which is essentially a cell phone for the computer. We've been using it now for 2 yrs and have had good service as we criss cross the country. We've had 2 nights without access - one in the Blue Ridge the first year and last year in New Town, ND. Speed is better than dial up and there are increasingly more and more upgraded towers which provide DSL type speed. We pay @$60/mo for unlimited access.
(On edit) Seems so long ago and the memory is painful, that I forgot how we used to do it before the aircard. We used Earthlink as a dial up ISP for a couple of years. They had 800# access as well as probably 1000's of local numbers. At the time I think it was $20/month.
Painful since we'd so often have to tramp up to the cg office, in whatever type of weather, to get a few limited minutes on line (and if others were waiting, not so private minutes at that). We tried to make use of WiFi but it seemed that many cgs that had WiFi didn't have it campground wide and of course we were sited 'just out of range'. Again, tramp to some picnic table 'in range'. All too often, the campground's WiFi was experiencing an 'outage' - I guess just during our stay - or the campground was treating WiFi as a profit center and charging $4.95/day.
What a delight now to slip the air card into a router and we're both online simultaneously, when we want and however long we want.

I use the sprint air card, in my laptop. Very reliable service, and also about $60 per month for unlimited access. Only thing to watch is make sure your card drivers are compatible with your operating system. I orginally had Windows XP, new computer had Vista, and had to find and download new drivers for the aircard. But, it is working great.

If you're looking for a national ISP, take a look at NetZero or People's PC. I've heard good things about both of them.

We use the wi-fi at campgrounds. Many times it is free.

If you have an ATT cell phone you can get it for $15/month (phone tethering). No contract and you can turn it of by internet you don't want it.

You will need to evaluate how much you use the internet. As full-timers, we use it constantly, for email, banking, all kinds of internet searches, like campgrounds, local event, workamp positions, oh yeah, and checking this forum!
We use a Verizon USB card, it's like a cell phone, for broadband access. Do a search in the Technology forum for lots of information.

Don't know if it is the cheapest, but we have had great luck with the Verizon wireless card, they are the fastest I have found. Have three cards at work and one for my personal use.
