I use an EVDO capable cell phone tethered to my Laptop, connect via Verizon and pay $60 per month. I operate 3 websites, surf various camping forums nightly, and spend upwards of 3-4 hours per night on the internet. I down load data for my racing site, and upload data to all my sites on a daily basis. I have never exceeded ONE Gig let alone 5 gigs... Verizon has unlimited access, but there is a 5 gig limit...ya gotta do streaming in order to exceed that!

We have had a Verizon wireless card ($50.00/Mo) and have had very good
success. Only once or twice were not able to get a signal. Lots of WIFI
places, too.

We use a verizon broadband card with unlimited use. Its kind of expensive at 61 bucks a month but it has worked great almost everywhere we have gone, 20 states so far. We are currently in Teton Natinal Park and getting a great connection.

I used a T-Mobile air card for three years with good success. Unlimited usage at $30 per month. I found it reliable but not fast. Because of the speed and better coverage I went to the Verizon air card at twice the price. It works well and with good speed. I am a happy camper.

One advantage of the air card over depending on Wi-fi is that you can use it while you are traveling. I drive and DW surfs the Internet. We find the Internet essential to our life style, email to friends and family, news and weather, campground reviews and locations, banking and bill paying.

I don't think you will be happy with any sort of dial up service.

Here's my take on the "air card" thing. I need my laptop for business reasons when we travel in our Class A motorhome. When I purchased my new HP Pavilion widescreen entertainment center I needed a new "air card" because it was the new Express Card slot. Old wider air cards will not fit into these newer machines.

So I got a USB Modem from Verizon. My cell is through AT&T and I wanted to get this from them, but they didn't get them in until several months after Verizon.

About coverage, sometimes my Verizon gizmo works great. Super fast and no dropped coverage. Then at other times it's as slow as dial-up and my connection gets dropped often. I called Verizon one time when it was very, very slow and they told me it was because the area I was in was sending an analog signal. Analog is s-l-o-w!

Digital signals are as fast as my fiber optic connection at home. So my contract with Verizon expires a year from now and just before that happens, I'm going to go to AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint and investigate their digital coverage areas. May the best company win my business!!

We use free wifi and Gmail for our email address. works fairly good. Most RV parks have wifi now. Some systems are good. Some wifi systems are fair or down right bad.

Do you have a good firewall in place? Most campground WiFi is not a secure network... how do you handle this?

Can someone help me figure out how to put a signature in my profile? I looked at help and it said the option was in my profile section??? I can't find it anywhere! Help!!!

Has anyone tested the Verizon USB Modem against the AT&T USB Modem? I'd be interested in which performed better?
