If you do attempt Hwy 14, I recommend you take a short side trip to Cedar Breaks National Monument. However, I too recommend going southeast out of Hurricane, UT into northern AZ, and through Fredonia, AZ and Kanab, UT, bypassing Zion. Pipe Spring National Monument is just off that route and worth a stop. We took that route a couple of years ago with our rig on our way to Bryce and had no problems.

Don't know the height of your rig, but there is a 12'6" natural arch a couple miles off SR 89 on Hwy 12 going to Bryce Canyon. I couldn't get under it and had to turn around.

I also recommend avoiding the tunnel at Zion because of the tight hair-pins and switch-backs.

Other than that it was "A piece of cake".

Take care and travel safely.

I have been through these two tunnels several times and do not recall them being that small. Have not been through them in our new rig. For pictures of these tunnels see:

Can anyone verify what The Fireball says about them??

It's 13'6, at least it was last year! lol I had to straddle the center line to fit under it. I'm 13'2 to the top of the A/C and really sweated that one but I did make it through without touching!

Hwy 14 has a number of steep switchbacks just west of the summit but I've done it in a gas class C and in a diesel pusher. You just have to take your time. There seems to be some misinformation relating to a low clearance on Hwy 12 @ Red Canyon SP. I think the height may be 12'6" at the road edge but there's plenty of clearance if you stay in the middle of the road. If Cedar Breaks is open (it many times does not open until June because of snow), be sure to stop. Its only 2-3 miles north of hwy 14.

I guess I will have flip a coin to see which way I go. Hwy 9 or 14. Thanks for all you input. I was just concerned about having enough power to pull the grades pulling toad. I am not really afraid of the switchbacks I just go slow.

Rusty's is first on the left, Milts is on the right as your going east out of Cedar City, and I prefer Milts but would take either or, guess it would depend on which one had a longer wait. In Kanab you need to try Houston's Trails End. Great western style food, but the Strawberry and Banana cream pies are Awesome.
I have driven 14 many times with and without a trailer. just take your time and if you start to back traffic up behind you pull over where you can, to allow it past. I have seen many unsafe situations on that road from slower vehicles refusing use pull outs to allow vehicles to pass.
so take your time watch your mirrors and gauges and you will do fine.

I'm 13'6" with the dome satellite and I wouldn't take the chance.

I think our choice will be Hwy 9, want to check out the cool tunnel and I don't think the grades are quite as steep, according to the Mountains book. We will be taking lots of pictures.
