I can hardly wait to see the weigh stations they will set up in the future.

I am thinking rounding down a little wouldn't hurt if a dog was within a few pounds of the restricted weight but that's just me... but then again it's likely we would choose to spend our money and our time elsewhere.

One time when we were in NV we stayed at a place that had a 50 lb. limit. When the managers saw our dogs they were a bit hesitant to let them stay. One is 70 lbs. the other 100. They said being they were almost empty that night they decided not to turn our $ away. The next morning the managers remarked on how well behaved our dogs were and that they would now consider large dogs on a case by case basis. If the dog is well behaved I really don't think it should matter what size they are. Even with all that I really do not think that anyone is going tog et a scale out and weigh your dog. If they do, would you really want to stay there anyway?

Personally I would more rather have a 100 pound well behaved dog than a 30 pound yappy mutt that some one refuses to train. Places that have a weight restriction like that I refuse to do business with. Our last dog was a career changed seeing eye dog and was better behaved than 99% of the mutts in the camp grounds even after we spoiled him. If it was my decision I would call and cancel the reservation and cite the reasons and then get a reservation someplace where there is no such thing.

I COMPLETELY agree with you!

Has anyone run into a situation at a campground with their dog being over the weight limit? We have reservations in Canada in July and just got the comformation which states they won't take dogs over 30#. Our Tru is 33#. He isn't overweight, but we're going to try to get the 3 lbs off him before then. Guess what I'm asking is: how strict are they? Would they turn us away because of 2 or 3 lbs? Do they actually weigh them or go by the health records which will have his weight on them? I certainly don't want to get us there and have to board him for 10 days.

Just tell them 30. I would not starve my dog just to stay there.

Believe it or not, there is a park in FL that DOES weigh them. If I could remember the name, I would post it. It's an Escapees Coop park, no less. Anyway, we'd never go there even if ours weighed under 30 each.

OTOH, we stayed at one recently that had nothing on the website or in the book about weight and said nothing about a limit when we told their reservations people what we had on the phone. When we arrived, however, there was sign posted on the wall saying that dogs couldn't weigh more than 30 pounds. Ours now weigh between 45 and 48 each, and we were still trying to get weight ONTO the newly adopted and then terribly underweight black lab mix at the time. We weren't about to turn around and look for another place just because they didn't make their preferences clear. We stayed a week and no one bothered us about it.

Just go. If your dog is well behaved and you do your part, why should anyone even notice that it weighs 33 pounds?

Best,

I have contacted the campground and got permission to stay there. I don't expect them to weigh the dog, but they do ask for the health records which list the weight. We have no choice in which cg to stay in since we're with a club and all the arrangements have been made. I thought it in our interest to mention it before we checked in. Maybe the fact that we're trying to honor their rules makes us look better. Doesn't hurt to be nice. Someone said 33 lbs is too much for a corgi. Corgis aren't really small dogs, they just have no legs. (smile)

Boy, thank the stars I changed breeds with all this weight police issues the CG's have now.

I just pulled into a CG where I will stay for a month to wrap up loose ends before heading out Full-time.

First thing out of the CG manager's mouth was;
"How much does your dog weigh?" - 'Dog' weigh? I have three!

"Sorry we only allow one dog per camper."

Well, I have three and they weigh about 7lbs. each........

She smiled and said that would be a total of 21 lbs, that's under the 'one' dog weight limit, so I guess you can stay here.

Whew! One more bullet dodged getting ready to hit the road.

You might try contacting the campground, and asking them if they make exceptions to the rule. We did that, and when I told them we have 2 golden retrievers, they said that was fine. The only danger to other campers was that they might get licked to death!!

It would seem to me that weight is not a very good indicator of how agressive or even whether a particular dog is a problem.

Rosey (Grier) our 65 pound golden might lick you to death.

In all our travels, we have never seen or heard of this restriction.
This rule seems quite silly to me.

I have seen Chi's that would bite anyone coming up to their owner, but my pointer and lab will only lick you to death!!! That being said, I understand a bigger dog can do more damage, but an aggressive dog is an aggressive dog and a well mannered dog (Koko has her Canine Good Citizen title) that is social is just a delight to dog lovers.
