We love meandering up the Oregon and Washington coast.

Tillamook is a great place....and if you like Air Planes then

Tillamook Air Museum

This is a gotta stop place. I bought 2 salmon for 1.25/lb here...Really nice campground too.

Tokeland Washington

Then you can go to the most western point in the US, contiguous....camping spots are easy to find.

Cape Flattery

If you can come back home via the Hood Canal....

Most of all, have fun!!!!

Cape Blanco in Port Orford and Bullards outside of Bandon are both excellent campgrounds. We've camped there in June the last three years on our way to Washington. If you guys like gardens as a side trip go to Shore Acres (Oregon State Park) between Bandon and Coos Bay. We didn't know you could have such a great garden right on the coast. Have a great trip.

I enjoyed a quiet night on a Monday in late July last year at Bluebill camp in Oregon Dunes NRA, near North Bend on the southern Oregon coast. I did not have a reservation for that night and was having trouble finding a place. The campground was only half full and was a pleasant surprise. This photo was taken in the campground:

I love the lighthouses so we stayed near those on our trip from Newport south. As mentioned before, reservations are a must in August. We went the first week of October without reservations and never had a problem. In fact, most of the campgrounds were only half full. It was a great time of year to go too. No fog, rain, or other weather to affect walks on the beach or hikes. We even saw cranberries being harvested ala bog style which is more common in other cranberry growing areas. We came all the way back to the Sacramento area traveling through the north coast redwood groves, a pretty trip. Good luck on avoiding crowds in August...enjoy your trip even if it is crowded.

Happy trails...

I went up the Oregon coast last summer. Check out my RVing webpage for 2007 from July 12 to July 16 for campsites used. It sure is beautiful scenery! Note: I never make reservations and always got a campsite (although I do tend to stop early, around 4 p.m.)

If you stop at Cape Flattery be VERY CAREFUL!!

I did it once and got this uncontrollable urge to travel diagonally across the USA to Key West FL. Just to say I've stood on the Northwest and Southeast ends of the continental USA.

Do they have the roadwork done on the road up to Cape Flattery? When I visited there last summer, the road was closed for maintainence and the only way up was via a bus that ran limited hours.
