While I'm not familiar with the brand/model you've listed, I have been around two cycle generators when they were in use. Unless you're boondocking alone and don't have an aversion to weedeater level noise, this probably isn't a good idea. I'm not opposed to gensets and actually own four of them but only the high dollar Honda is a candidate for camping.

We've actually had favorable experiences with the battery packs and inverters for running a fan at night. I'm not sure of the battery specs but the fan is a $20 oscillating floor model we picked up at WalMart several years ago when camping in the Keys. The two of them will easily get us through an eight hour night and we recharge them from our vehicle when driving around during the day.

Over Memorial Day we'll be tent camping on Portsmouth Island (Cape Lookout National Seashore) where I'm sure we'll need some air movement. I'll try to remember to get the specs and run time details and post back here.

That generator is LOUD!!! There's no way folks in quiet, primitive, mountain campsites would be happy listening to that racket.

Coleman Battery Operated Fan

This little $20 fan saved me during hot hurricane season when there was no electric.

Seriously. Best $20 camping item I've purchased. It works very well -- strong breeze
I bought this battery operated fan from Walmart a couple of years ago. I really liked it. It has since gone missing. I'm pretty sure my oldest DD took it with her on a camp out with another family and it's packed away in their gear. But she denies it, of course. This is the same family that has my $10 5x7 tarp (not a $2 cheapie, but a good quality one) and a decent ice chest that someone in their family filled with dog food for thier huge slobbering mutts. Yuck. They can keep it. They are really very nice people, though. And they treat my DD very well. But, my camping gear doesn't go with them anymore. In any case, I will be replacing that fan with another one just like it. Walmart still carries them; at least my local stores do, I haven't seen it on their website.

I was looking at that very fan yesterday. I have a question, does it have a 'cigarette lighter' plug so you can plug it in a 12v dc outlet?

Yes it does. Those are the fans I use.

You know, I don't remember. If not, one could easily be purchased from Radio Shack or Frye's. I do remember that it folded down on on it's base and the EIGHT D cell batteries were installed in the base. It was very stable. When I bought it I looked at a couple of other tent fans in teh camping section of Wall World. I pulled them all out of their boxes and gave them each a good once over. I liked the O2 Cool the best.

I just bought one from the local Dollar General Store for $10.00 and includes the adaptor. Wally World has the same one for $18.00. Takes 8-D's batteries. It is great. I got rid of my all electric one.

Good Score! After spending last weekend tent camping in our local mountains, I have changed my mind about getting another battery powered fan; for now. With the cost of batteries these days, I think I'm gonna get a smaller electric fan and plug it into my 400 watt inverter/RV deep cycle battery setup. I already have done that for my portable dvd player and/or cd boombox. I'll give it a shot this summer and see how it goes.

Plus, I almost always bring one of my Honda EU2000 generators when I camp (in the RV or a tent) so it's easy to charge the battery if it gets low. Ain't technology cool?

Vapor Trails, remember to add 20% power draw to your plug-in. If your fan (or whatever) draws 20w, plugged into the inverter it will draw 24w off your battery. That's what the inverter will add to provide 110v power, and that's why I'm switching to voltage converters. I can't carry more than one Group 24 battery (tenting) so those watts add up.Camping World has several nice 12v fans, the nicest one is pricey but also has an additional 12v outlet. My dad and my brother each have these things. I have seen them in action many times. For less money I would get a RV deep cycle battery and a 400 watt inverter.

Edit for spelling...

Where can I get a deep cycle battery and an inverter for $70.00? I'm getting my wallet out right now!
Wow! They're down to $70? I think they were over a hundred last time I looked at them. The price has come down for sure. But, I think I paid about 50 or 60 bucks each for two group 24 RV batts from Walmart. And my 400 watt inverter from the auto parts store was on sale for $20...

Plus you get more AMPS and Amp Hours with the battery/box/inverter setup.

Add a small charger and you have a "system" that really works.

See........

My good friend runs his "C-PAP" off one when he tent camps.

You get WAY more amp hours! And I do bring one of my EU2000's tent camping with me. It is a good setup for tenting it out in the boonies...

I'm looking at this setup

Using a Costco Optima AGM battery in the Group 24 size and the W-Mart $7 battery box. 55 Ah,3 times the AH power and true "deep-cycle" operaiton, heavier than my WEGAN, but no larger in size and quick-disconnect setup after drilling a couple of holes.
