We'll be in Denver and then on to Moab, Monument Valley and Sante Fe, but on the way home we've got to decide if we want to go to San Antonio or New Orleans. We'll only have a couple days to spend so it's a quick visit.
New Orleans is only a two day drive from home for us so a trip to the gulf coast is pretty easy to do in a weeks vacation so that can happen more easily than visiting San Antonio.
We never go to Texas so this is a chance to see San Antonio on the way by or at least close enough to make a detour to it. I was there many years ago, but only for an afternoon and evening. My wife has never been.
Recommendations?
Take care,

Not only visit San Antonio, but drive a few miles north to Fredricksburg, and a few of the hill country wine tasting rooms, a real part of our beautiful country, a lot to see.

I live near New Orleans and made a number of trips to San Antonio.
San Antonio is worth seeing since you will be in the area. The River Walk is very nice with lots of restaurants, shopping and the boat ride.
Take the Mission Trail which starts at the Alamo and covers four other missions in the area. Very interesting to see. Then check out the Mercado which has lots of small shops (mostly Mexican) a couple of nice restaurants with sidewalk seating. Here's a link to San Antonio. Also has good maps. Here's a good RV Park Travelers World thats on the Mission Trail and also local buss service to the Alamo and River Walk.
When you plan your future trip to New Orleans check this site Fairs and Festivals. The best is the French Quarter Festival in April.
Enjoy them both.

Thanks for the great info. I'll do some quick trip planning for the San Antonio side trip. The wine country sounds good too as we love winery tours. Going to San Antonio adds some distance to the trip home on limited time so I'll see if I can plan it out with enough time to see things too.

Bluntly, I'd say your question could be "heaven or hell". San Antonio absolutely with no doubt.

So you're saying you prefer San Antonio, eh? ;-) I see you're in Houston, how is the trip thru or around Houston on our way from San Antonio back east?

Can't quarantee anything but coming back east on I-10, I would avoid peak commuter hours like 6-10 mornings and 3-8 evenings. Wrecks happen all day and night always and it's best to just relax, drive your best and be very cautious. Be prepared like a good road scout. 18 wheelers are the worst along with speeders. Be careful, but it's doable.

I've been both places multiple times and I would go to SA, unless you are a hard core jazz fan. NO is jazz heaven, has some good eats, but leaves a lot to be desired in many ways.
