I'm thinking about getting one to have as a "what if" back-up generator. The Onan in my toy hauler has been giving me error codes that tell me to take it to a dealer on the last (2) desert trips. Luckily the heat was managable so I didn't need the A/C.

Will it run my 13.5K A/C if I'm not running anything else? The literature on the Yamaha 2400 says it will.

word on this forum is that a Honda 2000 will not run an A/C unless you are at sea level.

Thanks...the good news is that I'm at sea level 98% of the time. Th bad news is I'm sure I'll need it when I'm in Mammoth, Utah or Colorado

Mine will not do it consistently- and when it does kick over there is a long delay between when the AC compressor wants to start, and when it finally kicks over. Not good for the AC unit.

My advice is to go with either a larger unit or two honda 2K's in parallel according to several people twin hondas with an outboard tank will run cheap & forever between fillings.

I've never had a problem running the 13.5 AC with the 2000.

Yeah there arer a lot of arguments on gensets on this site. I opted for the 2 Honda's with a home made Parallel kit and 5 gallon extended run fuel tank I put together myself.

The selling points of them to me were..

48lbs Dry weight each, make them easy to minipulate
Quiet as you can get.
If I only need one I only run one.
Easy to maintain

The only downside was the cost. A pair of them shipped to my house was $1748.00. The Parallel kit cost me about 45 bucks to make by using the factory honda cable. The gas tank cost me about 18 bucks to make.

I am glad that I got that setup, especally when we had the ice storm in OK. I was without power for 7 days. Well actually I was not provided power from the power company for 7 days. In those 7 days I used 18 gallons of gas total, not running them all night for the first 5 days, got tired of waking up cold and was unsure when the power would come back on. I rewired my natural gas furnace and watched tv most of the time.

They are a good choice IMO.

Our Yamaha 2400 runs everything in the trailer. Quiet and cheap on fuel.
