I will be headed north through Iowa in a few weeks. I have heard 35 is very rough. Can anyone confirm this and offer any advice. Will be towing 35 foot fifth wheel. Is this road concrete with the expansion joint problems that jar you at each joint? Thanks in advance for your help!

I've been making that drive for years and never had a problem with the highway.. a few small hills along the way but nothing that bothered us...lots of corn fields to see...and we've seen a lot of deer there...but the roads have never been bumpy or rough...

We drove down it in March, it's about the same as other Interstates. We are on a 6,000 mile trip and find that all of them are a bit rough, but 35 is not much difference than other roads. We find that when we get to a city that the roads are worse than on other sections of Interstate.

We will be heading back on it in June on our way back to Minnesota.

Parts of I 35 have the drop off at the expansion joints, look at US 54 from Tucumcari to Liberal and then US 83 north to I70,I80 orI90 to your final route north. I took this route four times winter of 2006/2007 and was a great road. I would take this over I35 any day.

The worst is just south of Des Moines. I just stay in the fast lane from Mile marker 56 to DSM. Our rig is the same size. You will be fine

The absolute worst part of I35 north is just into MN for around 60 miles. I thought our MH was going to fall apart it was sooooo rough. Staying in the fast lane when I could helped.

We travel I-35 from the DFW area to MSP twice a year. Various parts of I-35 have been going thru replacement for the past several years.
Yes, there are rough parts, off and on. But, on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being best I would say that I-35 rates an 8, from the MO/IA state line all the way to MSP. And yes, from IA/MN state line north up to about Albert Lea does have some rough places.

I sure wouldn't go thru the middle of DSM on I-35 thru , even though I-35/I-80 around the west and north side has been under continual re-construction for the past several years. I think that's about finished.

Be sure and watch your speed going thru Ankeny, IA., just north of DSM. The local police have set up radar traps on the overpasses at exit 90 and 92 and will zap you for being the slightest bit over the limit. I was told by one of the station managers that they are preying on the out of state folks for a "cash cow".

Through town is I-235. Around town is 80-35.
All the work is done on both

I80/I35 bypass around DSM has been 90% completed. Only the northwest part of DSM near the I35/I80/I235 split is still under construction, but manageable in an RV.

If you can get thru the twin cities okay on those terrible roads, you will feel like you are on a cushion once you hit Iowa.
And I am from Minnesota.
