However, CONFISCATING someone's vehicle and forcing them to buy a new one??? Some information must be missing from this story...
Agreed. I doubt it was CONFISCATED. Probably more like encouraged.
I wonder how many California Taco's will be affected? Probably a few at least for trucks living at the beach. Out here in the Inland Empire the only salt we see is stuck to the rims of our Margarita glasses...

I wonder how Dodge, Ford or GM would have dealt with an issue like this.

My buddy went in for an oil change and left with a rental tundra,so this story is true. They gave him way over what it was worth,97 tacoma with 180,00 on odometer and the snot was beat out of it. $14,500. Not bad and he didnt have to buy a new truck there. He got the rental for 1 month and just bought an auction truck and put the rest of the money in the bank.
I wonder if they are planning to part out the rest of the truck, like body parts, seats, motors, axles, trans, etc... and sell these off to auto repair facilities to offset the buy out money? Would be nice to get paid off, and then be able to take home parts off the truck, too!
To Amxpress,,,, Thanks for the update. My Brother-in-Law and I go wayyy
back and I should have posted it more clearly
To Traxtermax,, I confirmed with my Brother-in-Law that as this was
happening, they had actually poked according to him
about 8 holes in the weakened frame and would not
let him drive it.While they were removing
his Tags and doing the paper work on the
rental,He ordered a new Truck on the spot.
This was not the state but the Toyota
Dealership that took the vehicle..
Yes he could have took the money and run
but like he said, for about 7 grand he got a
brand new Truck and the warrenty that goes
with it...

Boy I'm going out to see if I can poke a few holes in the frame of my 98 Tacoma. I want a new truck for 1/3 the price of a new one. Don't think it will fly since we don't use salt here in Oregon.
