I just filled one today, It felt like about 40 pounds. Of course you would think it one be 30 pounds, but it felt heaver than that.

A typical steel "30 pound" liquid propane tank weighs about 25-28 pounds empty.
propane tank markings (on collar)

propane weighs about 4.125 pounds per gallon and a "30 pound tank" will
hold about 7.5 gallons so a full tank will weigh about 55 pounds or so.

I've measured both of mine when empty and full. They are around 25 empty and 53 full. (Varies slightly each time.)

The weight of the empty bottle is stamped on the top. Add 30 pounds and you have the weight full.

On the collar of the tank there are numerous markings and one will have the following: TW-?? that will be the weight of the tank. (TARE WEIGHT)
All tanks will weigh diffrent look for the TW marking.
