Hi guys, just wondering who is running a chip in their SuperNova and what kind? Just looking for a little more power for towing. How does everyones cooling fan work....stay on most of the time ? I can't seem to find a happy spot for it.
Thanks

http://www.thoroughbreddiesel.com/ts-performance/mp8.htm for chip information.
Those with fan clutch performance issues have changed to the Horton E450 electric fan,

My fan seems to come on after a cold start, runs for maybe four miles, then I rarely hear it again. My engine runs fairly quietly. Have not considered chip addition.

I put a TS Peformance MP 8 Module on mine. It has 3 stages, stock, 15% and 30%. I leave it on 30% all the time. I have seen a difference. I tow a lot of weight, 13000 plus and it went up Black Mountain 6% grade at 35 MPH. Does not sound fast, but without it I was below 20 MPH. I was actually passing trackor trailers going up the hill!
I was impressed. I do have one issue with it. With the module on 30% and you are not steady on the throttle, it thows the Check Engine light on and kills the power. But letting up on it, the engine light goes off and back to normal. I have ran with it on Cruise at 70mph with no problem. I called TS Performance and they said that it must be pushing the limit for the computer and if I send it back, they would back it down a bit to keep this from happening. But I have not sent it back, I don't want to lose the power!!! Just keep a steady pedal and no issues.
Worth the money!

Typically when you install a chip you also want to take a look at your intake and exhaust. If your flowing more fuel it's a good idea to make sure your engine can breath and likewise, properly vent exhaust. It's also a very good idea to have an EGT (exhaust gas temp) sensor installed if your running a turbo. There is a very real danger zone when you've chipped your vehicle, especially when your towing. Not all after market programmers/ chips are created equal but most of them do come with a "tow safe" program to prevent severe engine damage while towing. This usually means cracking or melting down a piston or two. I've seen this
The really impressive upgrades I've seen to this point were either larger injectors (which kill the need for a chip) or propane (wonderful for towing). Neither are cheap solutions unfortunately.
