I do not think some even bothered to purchase a ticket for the boat.

It's not the money savings alone that makes alternative modes of transportation attractive.

I like driving our hybrid Excape better than our V6 Excape. I like tooling around in electric mode. It would be a close race between the two cars. Electric cars are just cool. It's like the emmisions in the 70's. Tough - Get used to it! You could always move to the Middle East, they have lots of oil and dunes and no emmisions.

08 F-450 Red Lariat 08 KZ Inferno 3912 - 24k Superglide with under bed rails sitting in garage not going to be used, what a shame.

How much money is he saving when the initial cost of the rail is over $100k?

Plus there is no way he can convert gas to stored electricity and save money. If that was the case everyone would use generators to run their houses power. It's not like you can plug in the rail and charge the thing quick, the batteries will overheat, they can only be charged at a proper rate meanwhile your running your generator and not using 100% of the load for charging. I am not saying this is a bad idea, but for the price and charging it out in the dunes it's not worth it. I would rather buy a 40k rail, invest the 60k and the interest alone from the investment will buy all the gas I need.

there is a finite supply of dino fuel. the cost of finding, transporting, refining, etc... the oil will only get more costly in the future. to be realistic, electricity from nuclear, solar, bio, wind will be our future, unless a new technology comes along. electric motors are expensive, but as more companies compete for our money, prices will come down. i don't know the particulars of how long an electric motor will run, compared to an internal combustion, but we need these companies to keep inventing and people to buy them so the technology can advance. i'm old school, it will take some time before i'll go electric, probably like the horse and buggy guy when the horseless carriage came along, but by then i'll be able to afford it!

You are not going to buy a twin turbo LS1 for 40k. Your not talking apples to apples.

It's completely rational for me. I just had to do the math. I have one of their Twin Turbo LS1 Cars with a Mendeola S4D Transmission. I go through a 55 gallon drum of fuel each day I'm on vacation which cost me $450 per drum or $1,800 for a 4 day vacation. I get approx. 3.2 hours on 20 gallons. The car only cost $10,000 more than the gas version. That means on my 6th vacation, I've paid for the extra. Now, i can plug it into my generator and in 1 hours it's charged to 85% capacity. All i have to do is eat lunch and it's ready to go. Or it takes 3 hours for a full charge. They used 3 gallons for the full charge on their 6000 watt Onan generator. 3 gallons at $4.00 is $12.00 for total fuel spent. Twice a day is $24.00 worse case. 200 miles is the ultimate in mileage however, even with the full day of test driving we did, we still got 118 miles on a charge. For me it's a no brainer. AS far as issues with Xtreme, I'm on my 4th car from them and they've never been late and I've never had an issue. I've met a dozen or so of their customer's and they've never had issues either. It's easy for trash to spread when a mistake is made however, the good news seldom gets reported. Bottom line for me, it was a 1 hour decision. Also the batteries are lithium ion batteries and are warrantied for 5 years and will take over 6500 completely recharges. For me that's 135 years of trips! These ain't no $3000 batteries, try 10 times that! This isn't your back yard home built electric system. This is the same technology that is in the new Tesla electric vehicle. Google Tesla Motorsports and see what they are doing.

Fishingfan, or should I just call you Alan.

It's is a terrible message when the owner of a company has to get online, create a false identity and pretend to be a customer to promote his own product. How do WE know this is happening? First, no real duner with the kind of money being discussed in your post would ever buy a car from xtrem. If for some chance they did, they would know very soon it was a mistake and would never do it a second time, a third and never even consider it a 4th or 5th time. Second, if a duner has a real car with a twin turbo motor, there is no way the would ever consider switching to a untested and unproven electric car. really Alan, you should be more careful with where you post your hog wash.

Now if for some reason, some strange act of god that there is a fool willing to throw money away and your confused about the reputation of xtreme motorsports and their fearless leader, I would invite you to go to glamisdunes.com and do a search for xtreme motorsports or Alan and see what some of his real customers are saying. Feel free to ask his customers about their experiences. Ask about the cars delivered months after the promised delivery date, the cars delivered that had to then go to fabrication shop to be repaired, the chassis that were returned because they were so wrong they couldn't even be used.

Sorry Alan, you cost a lot of your customers a lot of money fixing your screw ups, thousands of extra dollars were spent just to get you to fulfill a promise. Your customers wont forget.

Sorry guys, i had to make a run to Washington State this weekend to pick up some pigs.

I saw alot of question and here's what i think. I certainly understand everyone's doubt in a new product but like someone said, someone has got to do it. I'm several down on a list of reservations so i'm not the only one that is experimenting. However, after the test drives and research, it made sense for me. Yes, i do have the money to do it and that's why i did. However, just because i have the money to do it, doesn't mean i waste money. My ranch in Northen California is completely self sufficient. My house, barns, shop and exterior lighting around my ranch all run off a combo power plant i had installed. I have a huge wind turbin and solar power plant that runs my house with a propane power back up generator. I like new technology and fortunately, i'm able to afford it. I'm not saying it's for everyone but i think it make sense. It's like my house. I paid $500,000 for my electric power plant. The reason i did that is the power company wanted $389,000 to bring power to my ranch because i'm in the middle of no where. It made sense for me to spend the extra $120,000 and never have to pay a utility bill again. Some might reason that they could have paid a ton of utility bills with that $120,000 and that might be true. I didn't want to do that. Just my opinion. Doesn't make it right or wrong or worth anything for that matter.

As far as the sandcar, i liked the idea, i can easily justify that money savings so i did it. Yes it's not for everyone but i'm not here to convince anyone either. Just sharing the information i found and how it benefited me.

As far as the good/bad comments about Xtreme, you can take that up with them. I'm not confused about their reputation I just don't care. I'm not here to push or defend the company, i don't care whether you like them or not or whether you shop there or not, as it doesn't make one difference to me personally. Remember what i said earlier, if you don't like them, don't shop there. That's the ultimate insult to a company is not going back to them for business.

I'm here letting everyone know that I'm buying an electric sandcar and i think it's a great idea. I've ridden in it and it out performed MY Twin Turbo V8 car. It works for me. I get my car in May 2009 so if your ever see me around, feel free to flag me down for a ride. It's only a 2 seat car so you might have to wait in line. Still working on colors but when i figure it out, I'll let you know.

My name is Jeremy for reference and by the way Victim is spelled with an I not an O.

I'm not saying I know anything (I'd never claim that), just seems like a red-flag for an alias.

I'm not a duner though and don't have a dog in this fight.

Course on the flip side of that coin Dave, It is very suspect that on the day this thread started 5/6/08 fishingfan became a member, responded to this thread with facts and figures I would expect the designer or owner to come up with. Also a lot of I's while explaining the virtues and testing of this car????

Fishing fan fishing for customers???? Seems awfully fishy to me
