I will need to camp one night near Billings, MT while we are passing through on our 5 week RV trip this summer. We'd rather stay in a Federal, State, or County park instead of a private campground. No hookups needed. Any body know of a place just out of town? Let's say within 25 mile radius. Thanks. Jeff

HERE is a neat way to search for Montana State parks.

The state parks I found within 25 miles of Billings don't seem to having camping sites...look like day use parks!

Chief Plenty Coups (State Park)

Lake Elmo (State Park)

Pictograph Cave (State Park)

THIS one, Cooney State Park, is a little farther away but does have camping sites.

Best of luck!

Columbus MT has a park I believe is a city park. No hookups, but it's free and right on the Yellowstone River. They have dumpsters, toilets and I think, water.

It's called Itch-ke-pe City Park, south of Columbus on Hwy. 78. (Exit 408 on I90.)

Assuming you are on I-90, Livingston has a county fairgrounds with 50 amps and water for $ 15.00 per nite.

There are several RV Parks close to Billings. A Good-Sam Park, Yellow Stone River RV Park at exit 450 on I90. This is off the 27th Street exit. High ratings 8-9, WiFi, Pets, etc. (800) 654-0878. No State parks etc. I know of within 25 miles of Billings.

I second the city park in Columbus. Have stayed there numerous times when I had business in Billings. Right along the Yellowstone River and the price is right.
