Would be interested in hearing from those who have chosen southern Alabama as their destination of choice. Fast approaching the day we make our first choice.

you don't hear much about Alabama or miss being a snow bird spot I would be interested on what someone has to say about it also.

I think the reason you don't hear much is that most snowbirds tend to hug the coast, and between Alabama and Mississippi there is only about 150 miles of coastline. As you go inland, unlike Florida and Texas, you have to head north into cooler weather, and most snowbirds don't care to do that. We spent a little time in central Alabama and southern Georgia, but there was not as much to do as along the coast, and the weather was noticably cooler (although that didn't bother us much).

My reason for posting the question was that while surfing the web for campgrounds along the coastal area of Alabama and Mississippi reference was made by some as being snowbird destinations so thought I'd throw out a line and see if there were many out there using these areas. So far not too many hits but it's early yet.

I think you might find that the cooler weather will make these spots not as popular. We have been to Alabama in April - it wasn't all that warm then but it could have been the year. I want warmer weather. Tampa works for us.

Have met several "snowbirds" that have bought or lease lots at Spanish Cove(Lillian),Alabama.

The best kept snowbird secret is Gulf Shores Alabama, beautiful beaches, fishing, biking and hiking trails, great campgrounds and very reasonably priced. great restaurants, and shopping, We found it six years ago, wouldn't even consider going anywhere else, it has everything we want. Oh the temps range from 50 to 80. Much like Michigan in the spring and summer. JK

Luxury RV Resort in Gulf Shores, Alabama is close to beaches. RV park has pool,nature walk, is close to restaurants, mini golf, etc. Visited last year.
