Do you keep the trailer tire pressure at max or under the max? I've heard reasons for both.

I recommend max according to the label on the tire as most trailers have the tires loaded to near their max rating.

If the tires are cold, or not driven more than say a mile or so, I would bring them up to max pressure or maybe one or two pounds lower. Never higher. If they are hot, never let air out to your max, because they will be low. My understanding is, RV tires build heat like crazy if they are low, and could self destruct.

The actual tire pressure you NEED is determined by your tires themselves and the weight of your trailer. It is NEVER a bad idea to inflate to maximum but not necessarily required. There is a WIDE VARIATION in "trailer tires" and the devils ALWAYS in the details but you have not provided any.

I've wondered that with the new TT,my TTs GVWR is 7900 ,my axles are 5000lb each and my tires are rated at 2540lb each,so I have a one ton cushion on everything, but I have been runnuing them at max.preasure.My truck tires have a max.of 80psi but I do not run them at that full presure especially the fronts it handles and drives the best at 65 in the front ,75 in the rear.

A mechanic I know told me to run mine at max because they are bias ply. He said that the bias build excessive heat when run low and can seriously damage the tire. Radials can be run lower.

Tires should be inflated according to the weight they are carrying, up to the max shown on the sidewall. Goodyear has a chart on their website showing the tire capacities at varying pressures. If you need to inflate to the max, you might want to consider going to a higher load range.
