Some advice I took while camping in Georgia was to get a fan and place it under the awning so it blows across the door...the breeze keeps the deerflies from getting in.
Tip # 2 was to keep the ac on in the camper...the gnats do not like the cold.
Sprawing the stabs with bug spray helps prevent ant convoys from moving in, and a bit of Terro ant bait is good for ants that do move in.
A small portable vac like the shark vac works wonders in removing gnats that get in....turn on the roof fan to get the gnats on the screen then suck them up and turn off lights when not needed.

I use Bug Stop from Walmart, clear, non staining...I spray the stabilizers and all cords and all places that touch the ground...I even use it inside about every 3 months.

This weekend I used Terro ant spray around everything. I was also told you can use their dust or granules around everything too. The problem I had was during the day it was fly city where I was. Not really bothering me, but just everywhere. I realized I forgot my fly swatter and got one pronto. Only had one fly get in though! No other flying bugs, but some weird looking crawly things around my bbq at night, creepy looking bugs!
Thanks,
Dave

Well after having my first lengthy trip I have a new question about pests. Once I park at a site I use bug powder around every point that contacts the ground. This works great for the crawling pests. I had no flying bugs in the trailer until the last night then an occasional moth would get in, big deal, grab and throw out. But what bugged me, LOL (bugged) was the little flying things, gnats? Is there a good/easy way to kill these? I take it they're getting in around the door area, is there a way to seal that tighter?

Recently we were camped on the Okeechobee and when the skeeters came out one of the guys busted out with some Listerine in a spray bottle. He misted his tent and the guys around the camp fire. Seemed to work pretty well.
I was told that "Yard Guard" in the aerosol can is really good to spray the parameter of the camp with. I have a can in the camper but have not used it yet. Will put it to the test soon.

I use a pyrethrin spray that can be purchased at any farm store. I usually have my family get out of the trailer before we go to be for the night and spray the trailer inside and out and let air out for a few minutes before we go back in and we have had success. The bad thing is there are a lot of dead bugs to clean up on the counter in the morning. Pyrethrum is made from the oil in crysanthemum and as far as insecticides go they are the "safest" for people. Great to kill the flying insects very quickly.

Most times, just keeping the door closed keeps the buzzers out. They are attracted to the lights, so we use the orange porch light rather than the inside lights - as long as someone is going in/out the door. If the grandkids are opening/closing the door, we have lantern/candles on the picnic table to attract them away from the camper.
To keep from being bitten while outside - I've had good results from my thermocell.
Have also had good results with 'Cutter Backyard' hose attachment - will spray the campsite and under the trailer - seems to help somewhat.

Was cleaning some cobwebs from around the pup this weekend and a big ugly black widow scurried out to see what I was up to. Gonna have to nuke that thing now.
