We have an Atwood hotwater heater that is on its third year. We just got back from are first trip of the year and on the last day I noticed the back of the heater on the outside of the tt had a drip. I took the cover off and noticed it was dripping out of the brass fitting with the pressure screw (looks like a boat plug) on the front and a place for what looks like a place to screw in a hose. My wife had just gotten out of the shower when i noticed the leak. I went back to check on it and it appeared to have stopped. What do you think the problem could be?
Seems this leak would be coming from the pressure relief vlave. Quite common when the water heats up. The pressure inside the heater needs to vent , hence the relief valve. I added a copper drip tube to my fitting and now it drips outside rather than in the compartment.
The pressure relief valve is easily replaceable, assuming you have a stilson or very large wrench to get around it. Can get the part at basically any RV place. Only question is diameter (there are 2 diameters of pipe). While working in there may want to replace the anode at the same time. It is the other large bolt head on the same surface of the water heater.

You might try reseating a few times and see if the leak stops... If you do this, make sure the water has cooled down as there is a lot of pressure there... It's not uncommon for these to leak a bit especially under pressure... If it's more than a few drops, you may want to replace it - it's a syandard hardware store item...

Atwood water heaters do not have a anode rod. Only a plastic drain plug.

i dont know how many people know what a stilson wrench is the only reason I know is I had a pipe wrench made by stilson very old.
