When the kids were younger, my wife used to read to them around the campfire. Adventure - dragons and magic type stuff, including Harry Potter. A couple times, the kids would have friends over for a night, and the friends would think it odd about the reading. Inevitably, now it is one of the best things the friends remember enjoying.
Well, kids are older now, **sigh**, so we don't do the reading anymore.

We eat Dinty Moore stew and potato rolls for dinner first night at camp. We never eat it any other time. We play 4 square at every campground we're at as long as there's a paved section. DH reads to everyone before bed. Last book he read was "The Sword in the Stone".

We have one of those ice cream maker balls. We sit in a circle and roll it around, making ice cream. When it is your turn, you say something nice about the next person and roll it to them... This does not last the whole time, but it is a nice way to start off. If we have a large group of kids, we have one adult (usually me) sit in the middle to keep the game going. The kids love to make ice cream this way and it keeps them occupied for about 20 minutes...

Children each having their own map on the way and marking the route as we went along. Even the ones who could not read had a map to scribble on so they thought they were doing it.
Searching for firewood
Finding apple trees they can come back to in season. Picking strawberries, raspberries and huckleberries. and eating the fruits of their labors.

We have a family tradition of watching the movie "RV" everytime we go camping. We even quote lines from the movie, especially when were at the dumpstation, the kids get a big kick out of it.

Building a "large" campfire; frying fish; laughing; smores; sitting around said large campfire until 4 am.
On trips to Topsail, first thing I do is trek down to the beach, plant my chair and feet in the sand, light a fat cigar and sip on a cold one (only time I ever smoke anything). That first hour on the beach by myself erases all the stress accumulated since the last trip there.
