I had the same problem buying my husband jeans. My experience with Levis is it depends on what country they were manufactured in. The relaxed jeans made in Mexico all fit the same, however, the same size of jean made in Indonesia, China, etc. will not fit. This is just my observation when purchasing them. So check the inside tag and see if this helps.

Levi's was the co. I worked for. I don't know what their standards are now, but when most of the plants were here in the US, there was a 1 1/4inch allowed variance in waist sizes.  THAT'S why I stopped purchasing them!

Minkhill: Levi's was the brand I was referring to in my OP. I purchased them at a large name dept. store so I hope that store is not selling knock offs. For the price I paid, that would really upset me. Interesting about about the tolerance you referred to. 1 inch is a lot in the waist or any part of a garment in my estimation. I could see 1/4 inch or even maybe 1/2 but 1 inch?
Today I just purchased some open end wrenches from a tool place. China brand I am sure. Guess what.....went to use the 1/4 inch wrench and noticed it was really sloppy on the nut I wanted to remove. Used a mic on it and it was way the heck off. No more China junk for me. I will pay a little more and get a better brand.

I am one who buys the same brand same style pants in the same size until I can't get that brand or style anymore. (Sure makes it easy to shop.)
I have noticed that one particular pair of pants I brought recently is a bit snug, but the rest fit fine. I try on everything at home before washing it. I am not noticing major sizing issues.

If you think jeans are bad, bras are even WORSE!
There are never two bras that fit the same, even though the size says they are same.
And what a bother they are are to try on!

They are just flat making clothes smaller than they used to. That's my story and I am sticking to it.

Here's an example of two different brands of shirts I ordered for a customer, both are XL's. The grey one fits well, the yellow one is a bit supersized.
