Maryhill State Park on the Columbia River Gorge is nice, and the museum shown here is well worth a visit:

Icicle Creek RV Park in Leavenworth is a nice park and about three miles from town so is quiet but town is accessible. Scenic area and a nice park, summer reservations required!

We have enjoyed staying at North Whidbey RV park. Not far from Deception Pass Bridge and Oak Harbor. Can also go to LaConner or Anacortes from there - very scenic area!!

In Mossyrock, we enjoy Harmony Lakeside RV Park. Nestled amoungst the trees, has bronze statuary around the park and a couple of Coi ponds. NOT lakeside but a peak a boo view to limited lake access - one dock down a gravel hill. Is one of our favorite getaway spots. IMHO NOT worth paying for a "lakeside" space - a few with views through a wire fence to the lake.

ENjoy the fun of finding your favorite parks. Get a Trailer Life campground book and check out rvparksreview.com . Another great resource to help try and find what you are looking for = free user reviews and parks around the country. ENJOY the adventure!

Forgoing the hookup is easier than you think, but I understand your fear as a newbie RV'er. You will find spots on the Washington State Parks site. For popular camps you may have to check often. People most often cancel on Monday or Tuesday of the week after they have had the time to talk things over with the spouse.

On the Olympic Peninsula, you can often find spots at Sequim Bay if Forts Flagler and Worden are full. Dosewallips on the Hood Canal and Lake Cushman often have sites. To the north of Seattle try Bayview SP as was mentioned by SH, or the nice KOA in Lynden if Birch Bay is full. East of the mountains you will also have better luck. Try Sun Lakes SP or Lake Wenatchee SP. The KOA in Leavenworth is okay, but if you want more space and privacy look to the upper meadow.

Consider the Washington coast as many people have mentioned. American Spirit RV in Westport is great as well as the state parks mentioned. Also the parks on the Northern Oregon Coast are an easy 3.5 hr drive on I-5 and US 30 from Longview. Cannon Beach RV and the Seaside/Warrington KOA near Ft Stevens and Astoria are very nice.

These are by no means the best parks in the Northwest, but are all good options when reserving late from Seattle. I am not much of an RV park guy and KOA's pack folks in too tight for my taste, but these are good options with hookups.

When you are willing to forgo the hookup, you widen your options immensely when reserving late. You also see more beautiful places. If you drive four hours instead of three, you widen your options even more. If you don't have kids, why not wing it without reservations? There are always cancellations and if you are going to a place with lots of camping options you will always get a spot. The adventure is half the fun. And if you can, camp in the fall and you will get spots wherever you want. Best of luck.

It's not a State park, but we've always enjoyed Skagit River Resort between Rockport and Marblemount on Hwy 20.

Cape Disappointment State Park is one of our favorite parks - full hookups, big sites, on the beach, two lighthouses. Beautiful.

In downtown Oak Harbor, yes downtown, there is a park called City Beach and it is right on the water with full hook-ups for about $20 a night. We live in Oak Harbor and go there quite often, kids love it. John

Since you have opened it to private parks. Rest A While is right on Hood Canal and is not that long a drive coming in thru Tacoma then Belfair to Hoodsport. Probably right about at your 3 hour limit. They have sites right on the water and off the water. Great oysters there. Its where we use to go before we retired and had to keep it to shorter trips.

Cowlitz Falls Rec. Area (Bud Allen Park), about 15 miles east of Morton off Hwy. 12 and about 5 miles west of Randle. It is a really nice park owned by Lewis County. Nice sites with some in trees and some out in open with elec./water but does have dump station. Only drawback is it's only open from Memorial Day Weekend until Labor Day Weekend. Nice big open field for baseball, soccer. Right on river. Wonderful camp hosts.

We stayed at Bayview State Park and the Concrete Grandy Greek KOA and loved both of them. We also stayed at the American Heritage Campground just outside of Olympia and that was really nice and woodsy. All provided a different experience. Go to www.rvparkreviews.com to check 'em all out.
