The response you received from Jayco does not surprise me in the least. I like our 35GS and plan to keep it for a long time... but our next motorhome will not be a Jayco. I wouldn't take another product from them if they tried to give it to me.

We are beginning to feel the same way.

Does anyone know exactly where the cables are rubbing? I do not
think my cables are in contact with the compartment door.

They will not rub thru on the compartment door. That is to flat of a surface. They could easily rub thru as described earlier especially if they cut the cables a little too long.

Well I got my recall letter from Jayco today listed as a Transport Canada Recall Campaign number 08-166. Letter states defect exists in years 2005-2008 Seneca 35GS and 34SS models.

The fix is to relocate the battery cable from the front battery to the rear battery and to reposition the p-clamp so as not to allow the battery cable to be pinched between the battery and the slide tray. If this condition is not addressed; it may result in a fire, injury or death.

Well it caused a fire in mine and I'm still waiting for the fix.

You guys in the USA should be getting your recall letter soon.

I called to schedule the Seneca in to the dealer for all the recalls and was told they would have it for a minimum of two weeks. Supposedly, Jayco does not furnish any recall parts for them to keep on hand and they only receive the parts when the Seneca is brought to the dealer.

We have a 2006 Seneca 33GS and had a potentially serious problem, the exhaust melted the forward passenger side compartment bay on a trip to California. Could have been worse but thank God it wasn't. Jayco approved the fix and the Dealership is in the process of fixing it now but it makes me wonder if they approved it becuase they didn't want another fire related recall... Might want to keep an eye on it if you own a 33GS and I probably should report this problem to the NHTSA as well.

Well at long last I just got my Seneca back from the dealer with the fire damage repaired. Dealer reported to me Jayco was billed 70 man hours and the invoice for the repair totaled $12,000.00.

I'm still out money for out of pocket expenses such as airline tickets to pick up the motorhome and hotel rooms that were required for events that were already planned before the fire. As well do you think Jayco should be responsible for some sort of diminished value of the motorhome? I wouldn't buy a used motorhome that had sustained $12,000.00 worth of fire damage even if it's been fixed.

we are currently our first trip in a 08 Seneca HD 36fs from CA to NJ and back again. I shall have my dh look at it to figure out if there are any problems. We're still trying to figure out how to get the cable tv to work :-) Everything else is okay except for some minor problems (one of the storage compartment hinges came unscrewed (luckily we brought lots of tools) and the screen door latch didn't line up to close so dh fabricated one at home. Thank goodness he's handy!

Oh, dh just spoke to our dealer and figured out how to set it for cable. It's fuzzy, but it works...the connection outside didn't look so good :-)

The RV manufacturers get by with this attitude because they have learned that the "average" RV consumer is much less aggressive than the general population when it comes to resolving quality issues with their products. And they are right. The reason for this "attitude" is that the typical owner thinks that bringing negative issues to the forefront will devalue their product. Over the past year I have addressed issues with my RV that have drawn criticizm from my own ranks. The industry monitors sites such as this one, and the way they respond to these concerns are dictated by what they read on these threads.

Jayco, Four Winds, or others should be responsive to our needs, and we think the best way to achieve this goal is to try a logical approach to handling issues such as these. But logic does not always work. The originator of this thread is to be praised for bringing this matter to other Jayco owners' attention; anyone who exposes the industry to their own misdeeds should be praised, and NOT criticized, by their own ranks.
