Hello again,
Anyone have experience repairing corian countertops? I need to adhere two pieces together and am not sure what to use. The adhesive has to be strong since the bottom piece will be adhered to the bottom of the countertop without any braise bellow it and the corian cover for the range will be resting on the lower piece.
Also need help repairing a tear on a leather seat, any suggestions?
Thanks,
LUeno

"Corian " Has only a limited number of Installers/Dealers ! It Is a Trade Secret as to what Adhesive/Chemical that is used to seamlessly Join the pieces together! I'm guessing that it is a Solvent of some sort the dries very quickly!
Leather can be stitched, Vinyl " Fake Leather" Can be fused together or Glued! A Patch should be applied to the Base of Either to prevent a future Tear!

Corian is an expoxy matrix product. I interpret your post to mean supporting a corian counter, not joining two pieces of counter top. If so you can bond a supporting structure to corian with most construction adhesives. If you are joining two pieces of counter tops I suggest contacting a finish carpenter authorized to work with Corian.

Thanks, I'll buy one of those curved needles and stitch the tear the best I can. Luckily it's not in a visible area of the seat. As for the countertop I'll call an installer/dealer see if they can help, if not I'll see if an installer will come out and make the repair.

The epoxy is a two part mix that comes in the color of the top. After the epoxy sets up you just sand the epoxied area and the bonded joint is invisible.

chuck4788,
There is a corian hinged cover that covers the stove top, so you can fold it back when you are cooking. When you fold it back over the stove top it should be level to the countertop. To achieve this there is a long rectangle piece of corian about 2" wide that is adhered to the bottom of the countertop thus creating a lip which the corian cover covering the stove rests on so it will be level with the countertop.

The corian fabricators have a specially colored "glue" to match the corian itself. If you do it yourself the corian must be VERY clean and fit tightly. This is what I've used on SMALL areas but should work for larger ones as well. After you ensure the fit use alchol to clean it, then wipe the surfaces with a solution of baking soda and water. Use spring clamps to hold the two surfaces together and use a very thin superglue and apply at the joint. Capillary action will draw the glue between the two surfaces - allow to dry, do not use accelerator. Even tho Cyanocrylacate glue (superglue) is supposed to dry in minutes, I allow overnight in this case. Whatever glue is not drawn into the seam will sit on the surface and leave a small lump. This can be removed with sandpaper. The grit depends on how much of a lump there is - you need to finish up with a 12,000 grit sandpaper to get a gloss finish. There are kits of the various grades of sandpaper for this.

Also, Corian is actually an acrylic plastic. The corian look alikes are not necessarily acrylic, some are polyester and others may be something else.

There are leather repair service people who make invisible repairs to leather and some vinyls. Call your nearest Lazy Boy dealer - they will know who does it in your area. A repair on the arm of Don's lazy Boy recliner cost about $50 3-4 years ago. Home repairs will make more holes to rip under strain and would be very difficult to do and look nice, I should think.
