Bon-Ami, yes, very good window cleaner, we can still get it up here. Was a powder, now a spray liquid.

Any ideas about what Bon-Ami and buffing would do to/for a sand pitted windshield?

Another suggestion, I use a product called "Mr. Clean, magic eraser"
You or the wife can find it in the market. Because of the water run off the roof, my "plastic" glass above the driver/passenger windows streak and won't clean with normal soap and water.
I use it for all kinds of things like cleaning water spots and soap from the shower glass.

I'm still working on the windows, of course I started yesterday! I finally realized that the "substance" on the glass is so thick that I can feel the roughness. It finally dawned on me that I might be able to scrape most of it off with a razor blade. I tried it and it works. What's left is a much thinner layer of spots that is so much easier to remove. I'm still using rubbing compound and the result is a very clean, very smooth glass surface.

I did try Magic Eraser with no success.

If all else fails polish it with this kit. You can also remove scuffs or wiper marks; anything that is not deep enough to catch with a fingernail. I've used this on antique auto glass with great results too.

I use Nu-Finish liquid wax on the windshield. Makes the water bead very
nicely, cheaper than Rain-x and elimiates, bugs, tar, pine sap, etc. Great
stuff--works well on the body, too.

Invisible Glass. Bought it at Kragens. Also saw it at Walmart. The windows look like new.

If the MH has been in an area with alkaline rain, or alkaline dust with occasional rain, then those spot aren't deposits, they are etched into the glass. You can't clean them off, you have to polish or fill.

BonAmi is a polishing product that helps fill etchings, and there have been RainX products that fill without polishing.

P.S. Another good scratch and spot filler was GlassWax, haven't seen that for years.

But I see that you've figured out your problem isn't etching, your glass just needs a good polishing.

Probably nothing, it's not abrasive at all.
