Just thought I would post some pix of one of my tow rigs.

This 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona runs 12.1's in the 1/4 mile @ 112 MPH.

Although it is limited to 350# of tongue weight it is rated to pull 3800# W/the light duty load distributing hitch & W/it's stock 3.98:1 FDR in 3rd gear (4.32:1 now) it can out pull just about any 1/2 ton P/U that has stock gearing.

The Nivomat self leveling shocks enabled me to pull this rig W/3 strapping late teenage boys in the back seat as well as my wife & I in the front.

When I initially set up the hitch, after driving a few miles, I had to reposition the hitch as the trailer tongue was too high after the Nivomats pumped themselves up to level out the car.

snip...

Might want check the weather before you leave...pay particular attention to windy conditions...

Any by the way...with your "3 strapping teenagers in the back and you and your wife in the front" (even with self-leveling shocks) I suspect you are overloaded.

This thread should get fun, but if it works for you that it works for me.

So....

You been to the scales, yet?

It would be interesting to weigh in that trailer (hooked and unhooked) to get accurate weights of what you're dealing with for your tongue weight, etc.

Be sure and put the six pack of beer and box of kleenex in the rear to keep it off that tongue.

One good swerve... and those gear ratios aren't going to keep the tail from waggin ' your dog.

Drag that puppy out here to windy, hilly Colorado... and you're going to want more than gear ratios and drag strip specs to tow that box around.

To me, towing isn't about getting it up to speed (racing) or ultimate speed.
Think that is one of the main problems with newbies looking to only hear that
they 'can do' or that they didn't buy wrong.

To me, it's more about performance. Not just go factor, but handling and the
biggie, stopping it. Not just on a straight line, but on a down hill incline,
on a curve, in the rain and having to nail the brakes to avoid something that
just jumped out on the road.

***ANY*** vehicle can tow some thing. Ratings and loading dictate. Too many
advise to push those limits, even to exceed them because "it's good for it".
Any advice is worth the price paid for and makes no matter as the only person
responsible for the setup is the driver. Even if that driver didn't assembly
that setup. I visit here mainly to help others and those who I've steered here
to gain knowledge on the HOW2s. Part of that is to see how others make decisions
on their risk management (gambling) for their setups.

Bottom line....all things designed/engineered is not for the good days when just
a riding lawn mower 'can do it', but for the bad day out there when either you
have enough safety factor and the right setup or you don't. No time to go back
to the store for bigger/better/etc or to re-setup the rig.

I bet my 8.1 van could tow that trailer just as fast and alot safer. A VW Touareg with V10 diesel would blow your doors off towing that TT.

I recall back around '69 the world land speed record for towing was established by a '69 Impala, with a 427 big block Chevy (Rat Motor), 4 speed...towing a significantly large trailer...a 28 footer Airstream (something like that).

I can't remember the speed, but I believe it was over 100 mph, timed at Bonneville speed weeks.

What modifications have you done to your Charger to get low 12's in the 1/4 mile?

Dude, you have reverted back to "blow you doors off" type comments? Define "blow the doors off" please. V10 Toureg? You have personal experience with this vehicle and how it tows? I work with a VW fan boy, his ran him over 62k dollars and he is scared to tow a 17' boat with it. I would buy into the 8.1 van towing it safer and faster in a heartbeat though.
