We winter in SW FL at Silver Lakes. The balance of the year we like to wander and if we find a nice spot on a lake or in the mountains, we'll stay a few weeks.

Stormysmom: "Hi, These all sound like wonderful destinations. Do ya'll work in your summer and winter locations? I'm an x-ray tech, not quite ready or financially able to retire yet. But hopping here and there wouldn't work for long on a resume. Trying to figure out a way to be able to afford this lifestyle before retirement."

Florida (and other seasonal places) look to hire extra hospital workers just for the busy season, so don't worry about your resume. I know many nurses that do this, some jobs even pay a premium.

North year round. I can't take the blast furnace heat of the south. I'll take -15F for a week and a blizzard over 100F 100%humidity anytime.

Mountains required if at all possible.

We just wander around. Personally we don't like to stay in one place very long. Washington, California and Oregon are nice and cool by the ocean and as long as you can ignore their greenie politics, it's a good place to park in the summer.

I was a very happy fulltimer for 5 years and loved the freedom of movement according to whim. Each summer found me exploring new-to-me northern areas (including Canada and Newfoundland).
Family lived in East Tennessee, so I stopped in every spring and every fall on my north/south journeys.
My preferred manner of travel was no more than 150 miles per day and all that on blue highways with many stops. If some little town was proud enough of something to print it, I'd veer over to admire ;-) it. I loved visiting fellow campers and never met a mean or angry one.
For winter I made the most excellent choice: the Rio Grande Valley in south Texas. I'm a birdwatcher you see. I loved Fun 'N Sun in San Benito because it was close to South Padre Island for beach enjoyment, Harlingen for groceries, etc., and several state parks and refuges for excellent birdwatching.
Enjoy every minute!

Our winter home base is La Penita, Mexico. Summers are spent traveling the U.S. and Canada. This summer we'll be in Wash., Or., Canada. Lindy
