Going up to Arkansas from Florida in June. Anyone know of a decent campground around the Jackson MS area. Problem is I need it close to a motel. A couple traveling with us will need a room for one night. Or maybe even a campground with cabin available?

It's just for overnight.

Thanks

The Web site for the Natchez Trace Parkway has a list of campgrounds along that route. There are at least a couple in the Jackson area. We stayed in one on the Pearl River. It was more like a fishcamp, but there were power and water hookups, so no big deal. It was fairly close to Jackson. I imagine there are motels in the general area, but I'm not sure.

Movietown RV Park should fit the bill. It's located in Canton, MS about 20 miles north of Jackson, MS on I-55. They have cabins too.

Or park in the motel's parking lot while friends stay in room. Ask at office first, of course.

Speedy,

Depending on the direction you are coming in from (either I-20 or I-55), I would recommend one of the MS State Parks.

If coming up I-55, check out either Percy Quin State Park (McComb, MS, 1 1/2 hours south of Jackson) or Lake Lincoln State Park (Brookhaven, MS, about 45 min. south of Jackson). If coming I-20 from Alabama, would check out Roosevelt State Park (Morton, MS, only 30 minutes east of Jackson). You can even make online reservations here... http://home.mdwfp.com/

All of the above have very nice campgrounds and cabins to boot. Motels in each town as well. Percy Quin has become a favorite of ours. You may not want to leave!

rcknrbn, I live in Brookhaven and go to Percy Quin and Lake Lincoln several times a year. They are very nice indeed. I recommend them also........

We haven't been there yet, but plan to check it out. Lefleurs Bluff State Park appears to be very close to the capital complex.

Teacher's Pet - LeFleur's Bluff is a nice little campground/park right in the city, just east of I-55 at the Lakeland Dr exit. You are very close to downtown Jackson and the State Capital complex. A person probably wouldn't have security concerns but there is are high crime areas just a short distance away.

Although I'm not a native Mississippian, I've very proud of our state. It is just that the city of Jackson itself suffers from some tremendous crime issues.

The 'Lakeland and I55' traffic cam actually shows you Lakeland Drive, just 1/2 mile from the entrance to the park. Traffic cam

I was born in Booneville up on US45.

We are in the area each June for my family reunion.

We travel the trace from Nashville south whenever we head in and have traveled the complete trace 3 times in the past 4 years.

We've never spent any time in Jackson, plus I have a cousin and his family who live in Brandon.

We're looking forward to checking Jackson out.
