I used to own a 2004 Toyota Tacoma 4WD 2.7L 4 cyl automatic, reg cab w/ stacked plate transmission oil cooler & towed the camper in my signature which is listed as 2875 lbs empty. Add the usual options & water, 2 adults & that 2875 easily becomes about 4000 lbs. This truck would tow it but every MPH gain was a struggle. Took forever just getting up to speed. I had no trouble pulling it at even 70 MPH, once I did get up to speed, but it was EXTREMELY under powered for this application. At a steady 60 MPH it got 10 MPG towing. I would get 24 MPG at 60 not towing. The other problem with it was the short wheelbase of the truck. Mine was not an extended cab model. Towing was like the preverbal 'tail wagging the dog" I did this for a year, then upgraded to my current tow vehicle. You need more truck or less camper. Been there.......Great little truck, but not for towing even this small size camper. Never had a problem with this truck other than it being underpowered.

No experience with the 4 cylinder Tacoma but we do pull our 16' Scamp with an 05 4WD DC 6 cyl w/auto. Mileage is 19-20 mixed hwy/city and 15-16 with the camper as long as I stay around 65 mph. With all our junk on board (bikes, tongue mounted EU3000, screen room, chairs, backpacking gear etc.) the Scamp pushes 3K with all tanks filled. Most folks probably travel a bit lighter.
I think the larger fridge option has a freezer but give the factory a call to be sure http://www.scamptrailers.com/ We've had the Scamp for five years now and have been well satisfied with it for our style of camping (just the two of us, mostly in dispersed or rustic sites on state or federal lands, year round, 40-50 nights per year). Ours has all the basics with A/C, furnace, toilet & shower, hot water heater, stove, awning - just not much room as others have noted.
