Are these gas prices making you change your travel plans? If yes, what changes are you making?

I'm gonna start driving a teeny tiny car so this could happen!! No thanks, I'll stick with my big gas guzzling HEAVY vehicles.

These gas price threads are getting old.

You have to figure 46 cents a mile for gasoline and 55 cents a mile for diesel. A lot of people are going to local parks and leaving RV and driving back. That way they can go every weekend and not have the cost for fuel stop them. They are leaving the electric on and refrigerator full. Out of 30 million that usually go on summer trips by Rv's or cars only 16 million are going this year. Many campgrounds will be not full this summer along with hotels. Next winter I expect many to cancel reserved spots as they decide not to go south. The RV sector with all the campgrounds will probably have their worst year on record. Sales are down for RV's about 60% over the peak year of 2005. GM to stop making SUV's based on truck chassis and use auto chassis like the Honda's have been doing for years with the CRV. Everyone want's at least 25 MPG and a SUV under $30,000. Many borderline RV operation will go under this summer. Manufacturing of RV's will come to a halt on 2008 units, and 2009 units will be limited production.

I'm considering getting out of RVing and getting back into flying.

We still take our road trips but plan more activities in one area using our TV to take these trips with the TT at a home base spot. We did this last year and it worked great. We also plan to do it this year too.

Yep, instead of pulling down to Rodanthe, NC on the weekends and paying nightly, it now makes more sense to leave it there and pay the monthly rate for at least two months.

At the rate the NPS is closing the beaches on Hatteras Island to vehicles AND pedestrians for bird closures, there won't be any beach to enjoy by the time school is out so we may just pull somewhere else.

As far as the small car vs. truck video, my wife and I were rear-ended by a Pontiac in my GMC Sonoma a month ago. After that experience I don't want anything smaller than what I've got!
