What do you think? Will there be fewer people going to AK this summer because of high fuel prices, or MORE people, figuring that fuel prices will only go higher in the future, and that now is the best time?

Well judging from the amount of email entitled "On the Road to Alaska" I would say gas prices aren't slowing down too many of you! LOL!

That's fine, c'mon up! Always glad to meet another Forum member!

We aren't going to AK but up to Banff/Jasper. The fuel prices aren't going to stop us because I don't think they will ever go back down again so what's the point in waiting? Now or (possibly) never.

Wonder what it will be like next year with the 50th anniversary and even higher fuel prices?

This was the subject of conversation over coffee a couple of days ago with some friends. There were two opinions...

1. Fuel prices would reduce the number of visitors to Alaska this year because the added cost made it un-affordable. Or....

2. We would see little decrease in visitors this year because folks would just say "OK, it's going to cost a little more, but we have been planning this trip and let's go!". However, we would see a decrease NEXT year because folks planning a trip one year out will decide to go somewhere else.

Any thoughts/comments?

Met a couple a few years back who had been fulltiming ten years with six trips to Alaska. They were in their 70s and had sold their house with a ten year plan of traveling. Well, they wanted go at least one more time to Alaska but they had ran out of money with their "ten year plan". Guess what he was delivering RVs to make extra money and they went to Alaska both of the last two years. Where there's a will there's a way or something like that!

My wife tells me that her father had two dreams in his life...one of them was to own a fifth wheel and the other was to see Alaska.

He died without fulfilling either of the dreams.

Sure it may cost a lot to come to Alaska (BTW it costs a lot for Alaskans to come to the Lower 48 too), but it's a once in a lifetime trip even if you come more than once.

Don't let high fuel prices stop you from seeing Alaska.
