Just had my 2004 Dometic refer in for repairs yesterday. After speaking with another RV owner who's refer, also a 2004 Dometic and who did not receive notice from Dometic in spite of the fact that his refer was included in the recall, last week his refer went out completely. He cited symptoms exactly as noted in my recall letter.
He called Dometic, who basically said 'too bad', out of two year warranty. From his perspective, and he has a degree in electrical engineering, the repairs noted in the recall letter, doesn't address the problem that exisits in the Dometic refer's. The repair is merely a 'band aid' as it does nothing to fix the potential cracking in the propane gas mechanism that causes the gas leak. Even after repairs, the distinct potential still exists for cracking and leaks. He figures that since this recall applies to such a huge number of Dometic refer's, to fix appropriately, would have caused serious economic stress to the Dometic Corp, hence they had to do something at least, to respond to the govenments mandatory recall, and they chose to do as little and as cheaply as possible. I don't think Dometic has heard the end of this situation. Keep as many records as possible involved in this recall as we may need to use them in the future, paricular if a class action suit is waged by disgruntled Dometic refer owner's.

Well I just checked into forum and found the recall - Yup! Mine is on the list. Too bad its not related to the fridge freezing everything. I had it in to dealer for service in Dec because the sliding thermostate didnt seem to adjust temp and we had soda cans freeze and explode. Dealer said they adjusted but we still have the same problem this season. Anyone have this issue with their Dometic Frig and resolve on there own?

I'm confused. Is this a different recall than before or just an expanded recall. My unit was covered under the recall originally and I had it serviced in February.

Is this different than that one?

Dometic has some work to do with their customer relations with this problem.

We had ours fixed last week. Did not have to take trailer into the dealer as we saw one of the repairmen in our park. He did charge us $45 service call, but to us it was worth it for the convenience of not having to haul it into the dealer. He did say though that since we only use our refrigerator on the electric (and not the propane) we didn't really have anything to worry about; it is only a problem if you run it on propane.

I too had an ammonia leaking problem, I didn't want to spend $1700 I got off for $400 plus by buying a rebuilt cooling unit and installing it myself in 4 hours. 3 year warranty. Works great. I plugged it in at 8am and by 3pm had ice. www.rvcoolingunit.net The unit came Fed Ex from midwest to Calif. 6 days . I installed it in 4 hours (with a friends help) and it works great. Cost $499 plus 25 shipping. $100 back when the core is shipped back (shipping included)
They have tech support by e-mail or the guy gives you his cell phone number. I had tech support on Saturday.

I'm sure glad you made a sticky for this. I missed the original post. I really don't understand why a problem that has been around since 2003 is still affecting new trailers. Yes, my 07 is in the recall. I'm lucky that a local mobile RV service was listed as an authorized repair center. He should "repair" mine today.

Well if this isn't the Shhhtz, our brand new Cougar has a fridge that's under the recall notice. Nearest repair facility is 50 miles away and we're living in the TT for the next 2 months. Trying to get them to come here rather then spend a whole day driving and probably more $$$$ in gas then the repair costs.
