My wife and I are brand new to RVing. We have been boaters for a while, however, do not get enough use out of our boat. With the addition of dogs, we feel strongly that we would get much more use out of an RV.

My question is in regards to a quote for the above RV. The MSRP is $151,721 (pretty much loaded!). The quote came in at 30% off, $105,580. Please let me know if this is great, average, or should I look for better.

Thanks in advance,
Steve & Leslie

Terry,

Thanks for the quick reply. It gives you a warm fuzzy when it comes from someone else.

30% off has been a good deal in years past, if it is a true MSRP and not a dealer's inflated price sheet.

With the RV market the way it is right now, though, steep price cuts may be more readily available than previously.

I would push for more, 30% seems easy give up for most dealers. Can't hurt trying especially in this market.

We just bought a new 2007 Seneca ZX Toyhauler for 102,000. For a 2008 from RVDirect with the same options, it would have been 114,000. MSRP on it was 155,00, a 2008 loaded the same would have been over 162,000 (according to RVdirect). I actually prefered the 2007 as the duramax is a pre emission model. I have always been leary of buying first model year anything and the new emmisions equipment on the 2008's had me a little bothered. If we ordered one, we probably would have missed close to two months of race season without the toyhauler, so I am quite pleased with the deal.

We just purchased a 2008 Jayco Seneca 36fs for $115,000 pretty well loaded. The quote from rvdirect was $111,000 but one of the local dealers just happened to have the unit we were looking for on the lot. Instead of waiting the two months for rvdirect we decided to just go ahead and buy the one off the lot.

The inflated dealer price was always around $167K but they would always readily come down to $119k in past years. We've been looking at these units for over 3 years now. I'm not the most knowledgeable guy when it comes to buying these things, this is our first MH, but I'd say that now is the best time to buy. If you buy from the dealer bring in the rvdirect quote and that pretty much kills the whole nonsense of bargaining.

I have spent the last weeek shopping for a Seneca 34SS. The dealers are not nearly as willing to deal as I expected they woudl be. You can get a 2009 from RV Direct for $109k. They will not be built until mid July. You can find plenty of 2008's on lots everywhere for around $106k. I have found 3 left over 2007's. One has the 2008 motor so it requires low sulfer diesel. The best deal on those is around $104k.

o...a $5k difference between a 2009 and a 2007. Nt a big deal now, but in two years, the 2009 will be one year old and worth a bit more than the 2007.

Not sure what we will end up doing...

Good Luck.
