This afternoon my wife and I begin our drive across the country with our 2008 Fleetwood E-4. Uncle Sam has asked me very nicely (ordered) me to go to Monterey, CA for a graduate education.
We moved out of our house last week end have been preparing for this journey. We will begin by visiting family in Baltimore, MD and then hop onto I-70 on Sunday to begin the trek West.

Our stops are:
Huntington, WV
Tipsaw, IN
Columbia, MO
Colby, KS
Golden, CO
Provo, UT
Lovelock, NV
and finally in Marina, CA

That is roughly 400 miles per day. We will have our Harley on the front deck of the trailer and our F-150 packed to the roof of the cap. We are looking forward to this adventure.

If anyone has any recommendations about a trip like this, they would greatly appreciated.

I see you like mountain biking, there are all sorts of opportunities in Colorado to bike up in the mountains, and Moab UT is a biking hotspot. Probably a bit too hot by now tho in Moab.

Though my dream is to get to Moab, I won't have the time this trip. My Santa Cruz Heckler and Bullit will be sorely disappointed as we pass by. I have hit up Bootleg Canyon and Bluff Point Park in Groton, CT on other Uncle Sam mandated trips, both places were awesome. I have a trip to downieville planned for later in June.

I went to submarine officer basic back in 2003. Groton in the summer is nice, I heard the rest of the year was not as beautiful.

Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado!
Best park in the state, i think.

If you cant wonder that far off course and are just sticking with I-70, stop in Glenwood Springs and spend a day at the hot springs pool!!

Have fun!!

Monterey is a nice place, but can be foggy and dismal at times. There are a lot of RV parks on the roads along the shoreline.

There is a nice Navy Lodge in Monterey and a military RV park (which I've never stayed in).

Enjoy your trip. The Rocky MT's will be impressive, as you might see them for a good day before you actually experience them.

I had one issue when I was driving my daughters Caravan across country from the East coast to the West coast. The engine over heated on my first try over one of the passes. It turned out that the radiator and issues due to the salt from the roads in the NE. Had to have it replaced before I could get over the "hills"

Drive from Provo to southern Utah. The weather has been perfect! Check out any of the national parks...arches and canyonlands are close to moab...might a nice spot to take a cruise on the harley...a very scenic drive would be camping at Goblin Valley state park and head south on hwy. 24 and then on hwy. 95 to Lake Powell! That drive on a harley would truly be magical!

Groton in winter, the time I was there of course.

They raise rocks and slush in the winter.

I visited there last fall took the tour of the Nautilus, which I had visited

when it was still active. I served aboard USS Carbonearo in Pearl Harbor which I think is a

reef now. Also the USS Hornet CVS which is in San Francisco.
