Any one been?
We are invited to a wedding there next May.
We would not drive, fly from Toronto.
Package deal, stay in a five star hotel, that would be a first!

Just wondering what the general consensus of the place is.
Looks to me like a fast way to spend five or six thousand bucks.

My son and his wife were married there three years ago. WARNING- BRAG COMING!!! He and his wife decided to invite all the members of both familes to the wedding and they covered all the expenses, flight, hotel/resort, food, parties, wedding etc. It didn't cost me or the other side of the family a thing. So, in my case it was extremely inexpensive. However, without this kind of luck I can see how it could be costly. We really enjoyed our time there (about a week).

The prices you list seem really good, especially all-inclusive and from Toronto.

Here is a link to check out the reviews on this hotel. Remember that you always have to take reviews with a "grain of salt"

That is actually quite expensive for an all inclusive from Toronto to Mexico. However, most of lower prices are for the Caribbean or Puerto Vallarta area. The Caribbean is a lot closer of course so less fuel for the plane.

I drive down there all the time from San Diego.

Maybe not all the time but a few times...

I would take the hour trip north to Todos Santos. Cool little town with the Hotel California. Supposedly the hotel from the Eagles song but not sure as people dispute that. Cool place though.

I would also get out of the resorts and go into town and try and eat at places the locals eat.

To go to Mexico and eat at KFC defeats the purpose. Branch out a little.

Everyone goes out to see El Arco, or the Arch. Dont go into the caves on the island as there are no bathrooms and that seems like the only option.

My advice is always stay out of the tourist spots as it homogenizes the experience.

Yes.
If we go, we will certainly try to see and do as much as possible.
Traveling to a different land then sitting in the resort is not my idea of a vacation.
Actually we have never been to Mexico exept for a short trip across the river from Brownsville to the flea mkt at Matamoris(SP)

Thanks for all replies.
One other thing.
Is there a problem with the water?
I have been told that it is very safe. How about in town?
My wife has a very delicate digestive system.
I dont` really want to spend a week watching TV while she is queen for a day on the throne.

Thanks again.

Tell her to take acidophillus starting 2 weeks before you leave on the trip, daily during the trip and for at least a week on returning. That will boost her army of good stomach bacteria and is the best thing you can do to prevent any problems. Also, don't change your drinking habits much. Many who don't drink at all suddenly have lots of margaritas on vacation and then think the water is to blame, usually it's the change in habits. If she wants to be very safe, drink only bottled water (that's a good idea for everyone no matter what the hotel says), brush your teeth with it and keep mouth closed in shower. All of this is overkill, these resorts all have their own purification systems but just ingesting 'different' stuff can cause stomach upset in people with delicate systems. Also, drink a lot of water. It's hot and it is dry in the Baja and if you are moving around it is easy to get dehydrated - that will take you from uncomfortable, to leg cramps, and even hospitalization and death. Drink lots of water!! I'm sure she doesn't want to miss anything so moderation and attention to all changes can help prevent upsets.

The food is horribly I mean horribly expensive!.......I've been there 3 times the last being 1 year ago last April.......a 2 item mexican combo at many places is $20-$25....Margaritas $10.........basket of chips and salsa $6.........

At an average restaurant I spent almost $100 for lunch......luckily last year we were on a cruise so for dinner we got back on the ship

Although we absolutley love the Baja and all the little towns along the way we found nothing redeeming about Cabo San Lucas. It'll be fine for a wedding, sunny and warm, lottsa parties going on but really in no way indicative of the culture of the smaller Mexican towns. We spent a week or so there this winter, had a good time but were happy to be back on the road. And yep, the restaurants are expensive and very average. Get out of the tourist areas a bit and eat where the locals eat. Now were talkin.
