we are new to this forum and have a window of 2 weeks to go to teton`s and yellowstone, this is a dream come true for us, and would like a little info on campgrounds. I was looking at staying at Flagg Ranch to check out the teton`s and then going to Grizzley RV park for Yellowstone. What do you think? We have a lifted Jeep rubicon to get around in, but would like to stay close to the parks the jeep is nice but not comfy for hrs driving on payment. Is it worth it to stay in the parks? My class A is 35` long and we have 2- Austrailian Shepards, Rubi & Kimber that will be going with. The girls need to run, catch the tennis ball, or they go crazy are these good parks for them also. We are looking at June 6-20 trying to beat the summer crouds. Wow, I like to ramble on, Thank you..D

I've stayed at Grant Village in Yellowstone. No hookups but sites are better and allow campfires. Fishing Bridge has hookups, sites are very tight and no campfires.
It's a NO-NO on unleashed fogs. Sorry. And they could end up as a meal for a coyote. I'm not kidding. Don't even leave them tied up outside unattended.
Flagg Ranch, I heard good and some bad. It's right outside Yellowstone's south entrance and but I personally think Colter Bay would be a better choice. One area has hookups and might be full but the other campground is pretty big, without hookups. Make sure you get a loop that allows generators.
Travel safely and have fun.

That was my exact itinerary last summer. Due to TV trouble, stay at Flagg Ranch was limited to one night. That was plenty for us. FR is very rustic, with a natural floor which tends to get quite dusty. 20 amp service had us counting amps more than I care to. Don't get me wrong; for those who like that type of camping, it is a beautiful location and site, just not for us. Grizzly, on the other hand, was great. Very modern and clean, and handy location for both town and Yellowstone. The trade off is that there are very few mature trees as it is relatively new. All depends on what you're looking for. Enjoy the area; it is great!

I believe you'll find that the leash law is in effect at both of those campgrounds and anywhere within either park (and it IS enforced). It's for both the dogs AND wildlife protection, not to mention other visitors. Grizzly is probably one of the best places from which to tour Yellowstone other than staying at one of the campgrounds inside the park. It is a little more like a campground and less like an RV parking lot than most. Flag is quite a ways from a lot of Teton park but it IS drivable from there. Good luck and enjoy the trip.

For every opinion there is an equal an opposite opinion.
Grizzly is a great RV resort, but I prefer to stay in the park. If you like all the amenities... then Grizzly is a great choice. There are places you can take your dogs that are away from the crowds to run them.
If you stay at Grizzly there are several FS areas nearby that you can take your dogs.

Grizzly is a very nice place. I recommend the Yellow Bus guided tours. They pick up right at Grizzly. Call me if you wish.

My question is almost the same, except I'm leaving August 1st for our first trip to the Tetons and hopefully Yellowstone. Have two weeks. Is Colter Bay a good place to stay. We have two kids so TV hook up is a must to keep me sane while I drink a cold one. Will I have enough time to drive from San Diego to Tetons, stay a three/four days? Then onto Grizzly, stay three/four days? Or, should I hit just one park this year and another later. Can I make it in one day from Colter Bay to Grizzly without pushing it. I would like to drive like heck to get there and then take it easy coming back. Any ideas on what parks to stay at on the way back to San Diego from Yellowstone. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

We're leaving next week for Tetons and Yellowstone (three days at each) before heading east. We're stopping at Zion for 3 nights on the way. It's a long one day drive from San Diego (son lives there and goes to Zion). We'll spend one night around Salt Lake City after Zion then go into the Tetons.
You could spend a week or more at each park, but try them both this year then you can go back to your favorite and stay longer next time!

thanks for the advice. We stayed a week last year a Zion river Resort. Loved it. Drove into Zio about every other day. Did the hikes, drove through the tunnels, and one day went to Bryce. Can't wait to go back in a couple of years.

We are headed about the same time you are. We are leaving Orange County early next Friday Morning and spending the first night in Hurricane and then Hwy 9 into Zion and on to Hwy12 and Yellowstone.
Maybe we will see you along the way.
