never happened yet. 
Keeping the 5th wheel in mind while backing should be the first considersation, I guess. The one I currently have has dished out front corners and I don't know how far you would have to cramp it to get into the tow vehicle. I just will not stress my trailer running gear that much. Also, when backing, I don't have to get near the cab and be at an angle where the truck willnot catch the turn of the trailer.
The king pin sets a few inches in front of the rear axel, and I have always run with an extended pin box.

I have a 2006 Dodge 2500 Quad Cab Short bed with a Cummings and I pull a 35' Keystone Cougar which loaded is around 11,300.
My truck is rated at 13,100. Most Toyhauler's I've seen exceed that and I would not recommend going beyond your limit.
I installed a 5th Airborne Sidewinder combo pin box on mine. That resolved all issues with turning and provides a much smoother ride with the airbag in it. I can do a full 90% and never have an issue. Forget the slider, its a pain...I think this is one of the best investments I've ever made although next time I'll just buy a long bed

I also put a Pacbrake exhaust brake on. I tow thru North Carolina in the mountains, Wisconsin and Northern Michigan and the pacbrake from my point of view is mandatory.
It is like night and day when your headed down a 5% or greater grade.
I also installed an Edge Juice Diesel display/tuner. For managing EGT and keeping an eye on the engine its great.
Good luck, but if you want to haul those big fancy toyhaulers I'd move up to a 1 ton minimun size truck.

I have a shortbed with no slider.. do alot of offroad type camping and at the lake , Hasnt even come close to my cab.... besides the ext Pin box, maybe the design of the 5er has something to do with it..
back to the Op's post though.. ALot of 5er for that truck.. Although I do see alot of people hualing those hugh toy haulers with 3/4 trucks.. I think alot are inexperience and these rv dealers tell them it will be ok..

If you are aware of the cab to trailer clearance you do not need a slider. Been doing it for two years with a short bed Ram, have the wife watch my clearance and she says I never come close to hitting.

That's a lot of trailer for what you want to pull it with. I'm not knocking your TV but you're going to greatly exceed all of it's capacities with that toy hauler.

There is nothing wrong with a short bed. I have a manual slider, but have never used it.
That being said, 18,000 pounds is pushing it for some one ton dually trucks for weight, let alone a 3/4 ton. Find a smaller trailer or a bigger truck.

I'd be careful with that much weight, and here's another reason.
We have a neighbor who was towing over his limit like you would be doing, he came on to an accident just over the crest of a hill. He could not get stopped. Hit the accident. Now he is being charged with the death that occurred before he got there. They are saying he did not have control of his vehicle, specifically because his trailer was to heavy for the tow vehicle. Different states have different laws about this. He'll probably get out of it, but will cost thousands in legal fees.

Just because the rig is rated for 18k pounds doesn't mean that it weighs 18k pounds. I have the same rig and tow it with my F250 Super duty and it weighs within the limits of my truck, but it is rated for max. of 18k pounds. I'll also bet that the guy that was using his 3/4 ton that ran into the accident has the same size brakes that the 1 ton has and would not have made any difference in the outcome of the incident.
