I am about ready to purchase a pressure regulator and had some e-mail correspondence with Rick from RVWaterfilterstore.com. I think I may buy the Watts 263A with gauge for $60. Is this a good choice?
I also told him that I had the following in-line filter that I bought at Camping World for about $20:

He explained some of the advantages of a canister filter. Does anyone have comments on the effectiveness and ease of use of a canister filter vs. in-line filter?
EDIT: Also, is there any difference in performance or price between the filters at RVwaterfilterstore.com and any others out there (e.g. Culligan, etc.)?

Biggest advantage to the cannister type filter is it can be positioned to filter water coming from both the pressure water system AND the Fresh Water Tank. It makes the water taste as sweet and pure regardless of which water source is used or which faucet it's drawn from. It's an option I would probably NOT have ordered but since it was standard equipment on my Rockwood, now I'm COMPLETELY sold and won't be without it again. My system is from PUR but it probably doesn't make any difference about the brand as filters are pretty much low tech items.

browns329: The watts pressure regulator is probably the finest on the market. The in-line filter I use attaches to the hydrant at camp site, this keeps my fresh water hose clean as well as the rest of the water supply in TT.

My filter is positioned in the water line just after the pressure water line enters the line from the pump so either water source is passed through the filter before being distributed to the entire trailer.

I use a Whole house water filter that I got at Home Depot, a little pricey but last a whole lot longer than the little cheap blue ones for RVs. One weekend in a campground with a lot of iron in the water and the little blue one is saturated and the pressure drops unreal and you still get yellow water. The whole house filter is so much larger and has a better flow rate and last so much longer, it was worth the extra money to me. The watts regulator is a fine regulator from what I have read and heard, I use a regulator I got from Camping World Camping World that works pretty good but if it ever goes out I will get a Watts.

I forgot to mention that the adjustable regulator from Camping World has a much higher flow rate (abt 15 gpm) than the little fixed regulators and is sold by Valterra.

I have used both kinds on my RVs. The inline you throw away every 6 mos to 1 yr depending on usage, but mine also broke at the hose connection a couple of times. For my 5er and now the TT, I got a Home Depot filter and adapters to fit a water hose, one hose from faucet to filter, one fom filter to RV. That way I can use the quality of replacement filter I want, depending on circumsances and use it to fill tank as well as house water.
Got mine on sale at HD for about what one of the in lines cost at CW.

For those that have a household model from Home Depot, Lowes, etc...What type do you have?
I'm wondering if it is the same or similar to the canister filter sold at rvwaterfilterstore.com and how the price compares.
