I guess MLB is really concerned about Maple bats compared to Ash. I guess and Ash bat only breaks but a Maple bat shatters into pieces with the bat head sometimes flying everywhere basically becoming a wood projectile. I guess a coach for the Pirates got hit by flying bat in the dugout during a dodger game. Ironic that it happened at Dodger stadium because that was where Steve Yeager got hit in the throat by a broken bat. This could get interesting. How long before we see aluminum bats

Aluminum bats are now being replaced by wood at some levels of play.
I know the Legion and college teams around here are going back to wood. Better wood now, before someone gets killed by the tremendous speed impacted to ball by aluminum bats.
ESPN's Baseball Tonight is doing a show I think this weekend on the maple bats. The splintering of maple seems to be the major problem. The coach for the Pirates had a splinter of maple go right through his cheek, just barely missing his eye. He still has nerve damage, but reports say doctors believe he will regain feeling in that side of his face.
Carlos Delgado of the Mets got speared in the leg during spring training by a splinter from a broken maple bat. He was the base runner, leading off third base when this happened.
It may just be that disaster has not happened, yet, with the maple bats. I can only pity the poor pitcher who will have a huge chunk of broken bat and a line drive coming back at him at the same time, with just milliseconds to react.
You need not worry about having Ash bats much longer.
With the infestation on the Ash borer, an insect from China which was first found in Michigan a couple of years ago, spreading rapidly throughout the country.
Soon ash trees will be but a distant memory.
