Hi all, new forum user here....We are looking for advice on traveling to PP in a travel trailer. Will be traveling middle June with wife, 2 kids (10 and 7 old) and a dog.
What's the best RV park for us? I hear a lot about Playa bonita and the reef?
Do we need insurance for both my truck and trailer?
Any info will be appreciated. Thanks.

I love Puerto Penasco! When I go, I stay at my relatives beach front home. I imagine all those high rise condo units are in forclosure as well?

Personally I prefer Playa Bonita over the Reef--especially if you can get a beach front site. I just think the park is better taken care of. But it's pretty much a personal choice.
You have to have Mexican liability. That protects you against hitting somebody else. It's up to you about comp or collision on your TV or TT. Do you want to gamble that you won't hit somebody else and have to replace your rigs? That's up to you.

June is a great time to go. The water will be warm, it is so salty you can't sink. It's fun to try though. A/C will be needed and a shade cover for the kids on the beach. Take some sacks to fill with sand to hold it down.
You will need Mexican insurance as indicated above, regardless of your American insurance. Liability is required, anything above liability is your choice. Everyone has their favorite place to buy insurance, I buy mine right at the border fence on the US side. You pay for insurance from a specific time in 24 hour increments so I want to get it just before I cross.
Playa Bonita and the Reef are on Sandy Beach, probably 2 miles apart. Both are good. I didn't go downtown the last trip so I don't know the status of Play Elagante or Playa Oro, lots of folks preferred those camps.

I like your Rig!
In reference to Mexican auto insurance you would not only need it because of accident repairs to your rig, but liability insurance is the law and if they find you driving without Mexican Insurance you will be arrested and taken to a mexican jail. I am not trying to scare you, just stating the facts and potential consequences to consider regarding the need for mexican auto insurance. Take Care and Enjoy the trip!

Playa de Oro is a great park. Close in-town location. We like to move around a lot and it's close to restaurants, the fish markets. The Reef has nice large sites but it can be noisy and dusty from the quads and wind. Playa Bonita seems to have a long walk to the beach if you do not have beach front sites. I will say the beach is much nicer at Playa Bonita and The Reef.

We dry camp on the beach adjacent to The Reef for $5/day. About once a week, we pull in the slides and waddle down to The Reef to dump and fill for $7. On our last night in Puerto PeƱasco, we get a space at The Reef for the final dump and fill and long showers.
The Reef is on Sandy Beach. Playa Bonita is not. They both have nice beaches.
We stayed at Playa Bonita once. The advantage is that it was closer to downtown, but it was crowded with much smaller spaces than The Reef, and The Reef has 50 amp hookups. It was about three years ago that we stayed at Playa Bonita, and they had only 30 amp hookups at that time anyway.
The Reef is about a five minute drive to downtown. Less to the Ley's supermarket.
Playa Bonita has free WiFi. The Reef has expensive, slow WiFi. With a good adapter, I can pick up unsecured hotspots (including Playa Bonita's) from The Reef.
