Why oh why are the picture posting guidelines so stupid on the forum??? ALL of the other forums I belong to allow posting pics within posts and also do not have the ridiculously small guidelines for pics in signatures. I love RV.net, but this is really old school. Why can't it be updated to 2008????

I suspect one reason is that the servers used here are already overwhelmed-- Adding gigabytes of additional content would just make a bad situation much worse.

I also suspect that the other forums you use have orders of magnitude less traffic.

I would personally much rather have the existing system actually work more of the time than add more overhead to it.

One can post pictures within posts. I guess you are wondering why the forum does not host the pictures as some forums do. At one time, this forum intended to host the pictures. In fact, I posted the announcement. However, due to stability problems, those plans have been put back on the shelf.

Before the current guidelines on pictures, members could post any size picture in their signatures. You can imagine what that led to. The current guidelines were written with consideration for those that are on slower connections. We encourage members to post larger personal pictures on their profile page.

Yes, this is what I am wondering. And it is not just some forums that host pics themselves, it is ALL of them except this one!!!

I thought the Moderator explained it pretty good and had logical reasons.

You could always start your own forum and apply your own rules.

And I can't thank you guys ENOUGH for putting a stop to that. What a PAIN it was to try and scroll through a thread when people had those huge giant signature pics. I hope you NEVER go back to that. I have DSL and I still hated those giant sig pics!

But asking again doesn't get a different answer.
I am curious though that of ALL these forums you cite, how many of them have anywhere near the traffic this one does? I'm sure Tom can update this number exactly, but I recall the 1,000,000th post being discussed recently. And how many total reads do you supposed that makes? (I have no idea, but it's probably x10 the postings)

The throughput and crash problems are well known by all, but that's a helluva lot of stored and retrieved data by any measure.
