For as long as I have had "Duke" I always figured he was 18 years old. Even then, he seems really young for 18. I was so surprised when I came across his papers. He was born on 8/16/1984. That would make him almost 24 years old.
I took this picture of him last year on his maiden motor home trip. I hope I look that good, and am that pliable when I'm 24 in cat years.

Anything over 15 is gravy, but 18 is pretty common, and some cats do go on into their 20s.
He's a good looking old man!

Ah, spring... how do we know when it has finally arrived? Well, when you find yourself putting Petro-malt on your breakfast cereal, spring is sprung!

"Creme Puff" is recorded in Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest cat on record. 38 years old in 2004. We don't know if he's still around or not! "Puss" was 36 and Grandpa "34"!
On the other hand, Himmy was not so fortunate...because he only lived to be 10 years old...he did weigh 47 lbs at the time of death...maybe that had something to do with it!
If you were wondering...the oldest dog was "Butch" the beagle, who lived to be 189 (human years!) or an actual 27 years old!

We had a cat that lived 24 years or a little longer since we never knew exactly his age when we found him. Pretty good considering he had a broken jaw and bullet hole through his lower jaw when we found him. He healed great and lived a wonderful life. My neighbors cat is going on 25. So, enjoy him while he is still healthy. Good luck

Duke is a true joy. I am amazed. I know at this point every year is a gift, but he sure does seem "young" for his age.
He is a handsome cat. I guess he comes from a long line of champions. My Mom use to raise Himalayan Siamese, and Duke was the only flame point she owned. He never did sire a flame, only tortie's I guess.
She actually got mad at him. According to her, he only liked the "older" girls. Thanks Mom for that one, some things a son (regardless of age) really perfers not to share with his Mother.

Madeline is 22. She's not doing so well on commercial cat food, so I'm starting the transition to a raw meat diet.
Alexander the Grrreat is only 11, but since he likes raw meat so much that he goes and gets it himself, I'm pretty sure he'll be happy with the transition...

Most of ours have have lived from 16 to 20 years. Our Jessica was 20 but did not enjoy really good health the last few months and died quickly.
Our poor Teddy was only 14.
Yours looks young and beautiful.

What a great looking cat! He seems to enjoy life.
Twenty four years young in his case!
The cats in my life tend to have long lives, too. 16 to 19 years isn't uncommon. The oldest cat my family was ever owned by lived to be 24, almost 25. He was a Siamese that was given to me at the age of eleven.
Gotta love these great ol' cats! Give Duke a hug from me.

My "Mandy" cat lived to be 21, pretty amazing since she was diagnosed with diabetes when she was 8 years old and my vet asked me, " Are you sure you want to start this?" when I found out I was going to have to give her insulin shots once a day for the rest of her life.
Happily, she went into remission about a year later -- and stayed there.
But, here's the coolest part of the story and I am not dropping names, here. "Mandy" was named Amanda after the late, great actress Amanda Blake of "Gunsmoke."
She was a personal friend, and visited us in Denver, where I took her to visit a remarkable shelter called the Denver Dumb Friends League. It was there we spotted this incredible split-faced tortie cat - with a face that was black on one side and orange on the other. "Oh, we have to have her," was Amanda's comment. My reply, with a houseful of animals already was, "We have to have her? What have you got, a frog in your pocket?" (She lived in Phoenix at the time.)
Well, "we" adopted her and, as I said, her namesake lived to be 21. A better cat never walked the planet!
Cheers,
Magster
