I'm not really new to RVing but have never done this. I'm more the type to plan my destination in advance. Anways, we're getting a late start out of town one day this week and it occured to me there is a casino on the way that offers free parking.

I called and they said it's no problem to hang out, sleep, put the slides out and whatever else. There's just no hook-ups of any kind so I suppose that keeps people from staying too long.

So, have any of you done this? It just seems odd camping in a parking lot.

Thanks for sharing any of your stories

We have done this several times, just for 1 night at a time when we are passing through an area and need a decent place for dinner. We have done it at Spotlight 29 casino in Indio at least 3 or 4 times. You can expect some noise from traffic and trucks but all in all its been a good experience for us. Many casinos have good deals on meals and you can gamble of you are so inclined, then go back out to your camper to sleep and get an early start the next morning.

We have stayed in many casino parking areas on the way to someplace else, most we have stayed at have been in Nevada but they are super about parking for a night or 2 or 3 ( they want your business) but we also have stayed at flying-J also, yes its not the same as a campground but works for the night. Just use common sense when staying and if you have any questions just ask. There really are tons of places that are happy to have you come and stay the night.

Matt, Lets get one thing straight , from the get go----------- You are NOT CAMPING, you are only looking for a SAFE place to get rest, for a SAFE drive the next day!!

You are boon- docking, and there is NOTHING wrong with this. You are wisely saving some money, so ,you can spend it on your destination, where you will be CAMPING.

The casinos LOVE this, it gets them more visitors, with out having to clean the casino's hotel rooms. So, you are saving them labor costs, and still doing business with them.

Go for it.

Agree except for one thing.... I in no way will end up saving money

I'd be better off at the Hilton eating rooom service.... Or, at least that's what I'm going to plan for.

Thanks for the info everyone....

We, as others, do this frequently. They are a safe place to park plus the food is usually reasonabley priced and nicely done.
We have a small shopping bag of Players Club Cards which we aquired on our recent round the Country Tour.
After getting the MH ready for the night, we take the shuttle bus or walk to the Casino, join the Players Club, take the New Member Perks and play for a while.
If we get lucky we build up a bit of coin and then go visit the Buffet, using any points on the card or perks they offer.
If we feel like it, after dinner we might play a bit more or go directly back to the MH and bed down for a restful sleep, knowing that the Casinos have Security roaming the parking areas.
Sometimes we take breakfast in the Casino and then we get back on the road, rested and ready to face the day.
We visited Casinos in Nevada, California, Arizona, and other States along the way that have the Casinos and can honestly say that we enjoyed the visits. Some better than others but we can't get lucky every time!!!!!

Good Luck and enjoy your trip.

Coming to you from the parking lot of the Chinook Winds Casino & Convention Center near Lincoln City, OR. Treated wife to a nice Mother's Day buffet dinner.

We casino camp a lot. Some parking lots are nicer than some campgrounds and roomier too! Have a good trip!

Too funny.... I'm heading to the Lincoln City KOA this weekend. We were going to leave Fri AM but we just lose the whole day so we're leaving Thu after traffic hour. We're going to end up likely at the Spirit Mtn. parking area. I never even thought of heading all the way to Chinook Winds. I guess it's only about another 25 miles.

So, I'm guessing there's wifi? That could be the tipping point.

Depends on the casino, depends on the location. Some offer RV parking with hookups free, some for a fee. Some have no hookups, but allow overnight parking for clients, others have to deal with local ordinances that don't allow overnights.

We are now up to 200 casinos in our state, most will let you park overnight, only a few have hookups. Almost all have fairly cheap "all you can eat" buffets, some the food is worth eating.
