Going from Ohio to Rhode Island this summer. Planning to use I-80 from Youngstown, crossing most of PA, and I-84 into CT. Then, as per a previous thread, Route 9 down to I-95. Any thoughts on this route, especially I-80 quality across PA? Thanks in advance!

We used I-80 to Cape Cod from Ohio last fall and had no problems. Always a repair somewhere (one lane each way possible), and a few crack lines in the pavement, but usually not too crowded. The Semi's fly seem to be in flying speeds, but just be aware. Enjoy your trip!

What part of RI are you headed to, there is major construction on I-95 just South of Providence. Locally it is referred to as the "Iway", a lot of stop and go traffic.

scanlonj,
Thanks for the heads up!
We are helping our son get settled prior to a summer internship in East Greenwhich (south of Providence). He is staying in East Providence. I have another thread going in the Campgrounds forum re: places to stay in the Providence area.
Thanks again.

Your planned route will work out well. You will avoid the Tappan Zee Bridge and will cross the Hudson further North on the Newburg Bridge. I think that some sections of 84 through Danbury can be a white knuckle experience due to road construction but it is the same on 287 between 684 and 95. I find the route 80/287/Tappan Zee/95 to be quicker and less hilly than 80/287/87/84/691/66/9/95 but either will get you to the same place. Either way can get bogged down in traffic depending on the day and time. I think the toll on the Tap is more than Newburg.
