There is a small area in the lower center of the cabover that is extremely hard to reach. I can get most of it by use of a 7 foot ladder set up on the side, but my arms are too short. I was thinking about putting a blanket over an extension ladder and leaning it against the cab, being very careful to make sure the (well anchored) ladder rests against the front face evenly with the top sticking out over the roof edge.
I can't reach it from the roof and certainly can't walk on todays thin hoods. Not sure standing on the radiator support with the hood open would be feasible either but might work.

I have been using Protect all to squirt some in the center area and some towels over my wash brush up to this point, but I really want to put some elbow grease in that area as there are some bug remnants that just refuse to wash out. A good scrub with a cleaner then a wax would be the only way.

How does everyone handle this problem?

Also what do you use for bug residue? The camco green stuff doesn't work that well and I am afraid to use anything too harsh with the decals like the spray bottles of bug and tar remover.

Just did mine last weekend. I use a kitchen scrub pad on the tough bug splats. I use an extendable carwash brush and it seems to reach every spot on my C. For a cleaner, I use WalMart Super Tech Wash and Wax.

It IS a problem. I'm a contractor and so have scaffolding handy. It takes about ten minutes to set up w/ 2 planks and allows for perfect waxing. Not a solution for everyone, but it works great, and is safe.

I too use the extendable RV/truck brush. Drop a wash rag over the business end or the wax rag..and then polish with another cloth. Works well.

Rainex has new product out, Bug & Tar Pre-wash Gel. It's the first thing I've found that works. I had bug residue left over from a two month trip and then sat in the driveway several days with the sun shining on it before I could wash it. I used a scrub brush and car wash and wax solution for the first round and then sprayed the gel on and let it sit for about 15 minutes. I use the brush again and the residue was all gone! I got my bottle at Wal-Mart.

I have a cut off broom handle. Open the hood as far as possible, hold it up with the broom handle. With a step ladder, carefully stand on the radiator frame and I can reach the whole front.

Yup, the extendable carwash brush is the only way to go, although I also climb up on the roof and attack it with the brush from above, I just keep the roof dry behind me as I back towards the access ladder cleaning in front of me as I retreat.

You can put a folded blanket on the hood then place a board (3/4" plywood works well) about 1 ft. X 3 ft. over the blanket then place one foot on the board to distribute weight keeping one foot on the ladder set-up in front, center of the bumper. I've done this many times without any problems and this allows me to wax the middle of the cabover. I can grab the protective pad and board and set it up in a few seconds. Once you find an easy solution you won't mind waxing the cabover more often!

Washing is simple with a long-handled brush.
