To think that you need to change oil by date rather than mileage as recommended by the oil change people is stupid! According to them 3000 miles or 3 months on oil is time to change. Good policy to improve business. During my working career I drove at least 22 different company cars and our program was always 6000 miles between changes without regards to time. Never had an oil related problem. On my M/H I do a 6000 mile change and have yet to have any problems.

IMHO what's stupid is to compare a passenger car with one person and no load, to an overloaded van pulling up hills. As for, yet to have any problems, everything works till it breaks. And as for the FMCO and this big oil conspiracy to get us to change oil more often, anything is possible, but do you really believe that?

I will be the first to say -yes I have bought filters on sale and have changed the oil with brands that I would not write and tell you to use,but I will also say that I have ran cheap filters and changed them after 500 miles-not due to their price but due to their tendency to "leakdown" dirty oil back into the engine. To give a example on cost-the last engine I built-"just for the valve up-grade",the precision boring bar for the valve guides cost $125.99, the bar guide fixture was $70,cutting fluid $7,the guides were $60,guide hone $27,precision carbide ball for setting internal valve stem to guide tolerence was $30,new sodium filled valve set $169,keeper set $40,valve spring and cup set $140,new rocker set $100,new pushrods $70,lifters $60 and it went like this for every piece of the engine from carbs to crankshaft-I think the $ spent on filters and oil amount to nothing as compared to my other cost plus the $ value of my labor and love for big bore Detroit iron.
